About Dachigam National Park
Dachigam National Park is a
beautiful wildlife national park which is situated in the hills of
Jammu and Kashmir. Jammu and Kashmir is known for its beautiful
location, valleys, hills, gardens and much more in all over the world.
Like the entire state of Jammu and Kashmir, Dachigam National Park
also seems like a beautiful painting on the canvas of imagination.
Dachigam National Park is one of the most beautiful wildlife parks of
India. Imagine a place in the lap of verdant mountains covered with
thick vegetation which includes Cherry, Pear, Plum, Peach, Apple,
Apricot and Chestnut trees. This place really seems like heaven. It is
not surprising then that people often refer to this place, one of the
most scenic and beautiful places in India.
Dachigam Wildlife National Park is situated at a distance of just 22
km from Srinagar. The altitude variation of this park ranges from 5500
to 14000 ft. Summer is the best time to visit and explore this
national park. The atmosphere turns very favorable for visitors.
During winters the harsh weather makes the place unapproachable. But
the lower regions can be visited during both summers and winters.
This wildlife park houses several wildlife species which attracts
thousands of nature lovers every year from all around the world. The
place has been a protected area since 1910 when it was under the
protection and care of the maharajah of Jammu and Kashmir. Later taken
under the observation of the government, the place was accorded the
status of a national park in 1981.

Dachigam National Park
Dachigam National Park is situated in the valleys and hills of Jammu
and Kashmir, known for its unspoiled natural beauty. This wildlife is
the most important wildlife as it is the home for rare the hangul
(Kashmiri stag), an endangered species of red deer which is very
difficult to find anywhere in the world. Despite its substantial
harshness, the winter season is the best time to view the hangul, when
it gathers in the shelter of the lower valleys. The leopard, which is
the only predatory animal in the area, has been rarely spotted. There
are lots of other species in the park like Himalayan black bear, musk
deer, Himalayan marmot and species of wild goats etc.
Dachigam National Park is the home to some of the most rare and
unique species of flora and fauna. The place is also home to a variety
of exotic looking rare Himalayan bird species. Over 150 species of
birds can be commonly seen in the area which includes Crimson
Tragopan, Monal Pheasant, Blood Pheasant, Koklass Pheasant, Golden
Eagle and the Bearded Vulture. The lower area of Dachigam National
Park is not so much fit for the people. Trekking and walking are the
best ways to explore the park.
Best Time to Visit Dachigam National Park
The best visiting season of Dachigam National Park is from April to
August as winters are not suitable for reaching all the places because
of heavy snowfall.
How to Get there
Air: The nearest airport near Dachigam National Park is
Srinagar. This airport is well connected by a daily Indian Airlines
flight from Delhi (11:40). The journey takes just around 75 minutes.
Rail: Jammu is the nearest railhead, connected by daily trains
from Delhi. This is the most cheapest and convenient way to reach this
place.
Road: To reach the place by road from Srinagar, travel via
state road from Shalimar Bagh and Harwan to Dachigam National Park.
Lower Dachigam is well connected to Srinagar by metalled roads while
upper region of the park can only be accessed on foot. Daily buses are
available for this place and one can also hire private taxies and
buses. |
