A one month elective for medical students and medical residents

    What It's All About:

The University of Massachusetts Medical School has been offering an elective in Wilderness Medicine for over 5 years. A typical trip spends one week in the Wasach Mountains for winter and altitude medicine, one week on the Green River for remote whitewater expedition medicine, and one week in Canyonlands for desert medicine. During these 3 intense weeks in the wilderness, participants learn the fundamentals of wilderness medicine through re-enacting scenarios such as hypothermia, altitude sickness, and the stabilization and transportation of trauma victims.
