Sunday, October 3rd

Today opened that Fall season for WHRHS Warrior Ultimate. A collection of 11 players represented the Warriors at the elimination-style Middletown Tournament, facing off against TCNJ, Stuyvesant, and Middletown respectively. The first two games, against the Technical COllege of New Jersey and Stuyvesant High School, were good displays of flow, man defense, and the new four-man zone defense we had been working on during practice. We shut down both teams 11-3 before moving on to the finals. The finals game, however, proved to be much more difficult, when Middletown handlers threw easy hammers over a tired cup.  After playing two games with few subs, the Warriors struggled to snag those early points, taking half 6-4. However, this seemd to sap Watchung stamina, and it showed when Middletown shut us out in the second half, ending the game 11-6.
Saturday, October 9th

Today the Warriors played a repeat of the finals match from last week's tournament, Varsity vs. Middletown. During this game, however, Watchung threw a three-man zone that faired better than the four-man from last week, and displayed good use of the flare cut offensively. Our deep game seemed stronger, and several crucial D's gave us momentum, which the undermanned Middletown team lacked. We took half 8-6, and maintained the 4 point lead, trading points until we took the game 15-11.
Good job, Warriors (new players: you'll get playing time soon. Players yet to be cleared: you'll get playing time soon, we hope).
