"Goodmoring John Philips talent agency. This is Julie." I answered the phone with my normal greeting. "I need to schedule an appontment with Mr. Philips." The male voice on the end sounded very gruff but I continued. "And what is the agency your currently with?" A silence followed and then a few quick coughs. "No one. Thats why I'm calling you." Hmm. I laughed to myself. If he thinks he can just waltz in here and sign with the biggest agency in L.A. he was wrong. "I'm sorry sir your agent needs to call us so we can get you an appoinment." "I don't have an agent." "Well I'm sorry sir." He hung up the phone and I was shocked. John Philips agency was the biggest in LA. We can't take nobody's. I continued with the phone calls and daily ammounts of work when the door opened. A young man, about 23 I'm guessing, walked in. He was wearing black pants a red collared shirt and a black vest. A pair of thick rimmed black glasses sat on his nose. I had never seen him before so I continued to work. With my head still down on stared at him out of the corner of my eye. First he sat down on the couch in the lobby and began to search through some papers he had brought with him. Once he found the ones he wanted he set them next to him I smiled as he took a deep breath and began walking toward my desk. I looked up at him. "Yes sir?" He shifted nervously from side to side. His fingers shook as he nervously shuffled his papers. "I need to schedule an appoinment." I began to open up the appoinmnet book and stopped for a minute. "Did you just call her five minutes ago?" He stared down at the floor. "Yes." he replied with his eyes still fixed on the floor. I sighed. Does this guy ever give up? "Sir I told you. We can't take you if you arn't currently signed." He took a seat in one of the chairs in front of my desk. "Why not?!" "Those are Mr. Philips rules." He threw his papers in front of me. I picked them up and glanced over them. "Read the reviws. They say I'm good." I set the papers in front of him and folded my hands. "Sir I bet your excellent. But rules are rules." "They are not very good ones." he mumbled "Would you like me to give you some other ageny's numbers?" He shook his head and grabbed the papers of my desk. "Thank you anyway Julie." He began walking toward the door and I started back to work. I looked back up at him and watched as he continued walking. "What are you doing Friday night?" he asked He turned around and looked at me. "Excuse me?" I asked "What are you doing Friday night?" I shook my head. "Not sure yet." A huge grin spread accross his face. "A ha! No plans." I laughed and smiled at him. "Why do you ask?" He walked over to my desk and leaned foward. "Why don't you come see my show on friday night." "Your show?" I asked "Yeah. I'll be at the Improv." I was a bit taken back. The Improv was a big place around here. "The Improv?" He smiled a proud smile. "Yes. You've heard of it?" I nodded. "My friend and I go there quite a bit actually." "Good. Then you'll know where to go." I was a little confused about why he was asking me this but I agreed anyway. "What time?" "Be there at 10:30. Show starts at 11:00/" "I'll be there. Whats your name anyway?" "Greg Proops." He stuck out his hand and I shook it. "Well Then it's nice to meet you. I'm Julie Tennison." "It's a pleasure Ms. Tennison. Oh by the way!" |
