Band Bio
The members of Silverchair were born in Newcastle, Australia surf suburb of Merewether. Signer/guitarist/songwriter Daniel Johns and drummer Ben Gillies started jamming in primary school and schoolmate Chris Joannou joined on bass later on. They called themselves The innocent Criminals and they did Led Zepplin, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath covers.

The band changed its name to silverchair and in August 1994, they released their first single named "Tomorrow". The song spent six weeks at #1 on the Australian singles charts.

Silverchair's debut album, "Frogstomp", was recorded in just nine days in the start of 1995. A #1 hit in Australia and New Zealand, it went to become the first Australian album since INXS to hit the U.S. top 10. It sold more than 2.5 million copies worldwide.

They then recorded their sophomore album called "Freak Show", released early in 1997. "Freak Show went gold in the United States and eventually sold 1.5 million copies throughout the world, in spite of the fact the had to go on world tours and finish their senior high school year. "Neon Ballroom", the third album had the critics full attention in early 1999. Daniel Johns, who was having troubles at the time, wrote most of the songs in "Neon Ballroom" about his experiences and emotional state. The album was very original and got the attention of Europeans and South Americans more then the previous albums. It had a heavy rock/orchestral sound.

They were in the top 10 on TRL and rock radio stations following the success of "Ana's song" which is about Daniel's battle with anorexia.

Today, the fourth album called "Diorama" is rocking Australia and New Zealand  and is yet to be released in Canada and the United States. The First Single "The Greatest View" is a much more positive song than any previous songs released. The album preduced by David Brottill and co-produced by Daniel Johns himself, is having great reviews. Unfortuanally, due to Daniel's arthretic troubles, the band is not able to do as much promotion as expected right now but hopefully they'll be preforming very soon.
