Quick Bio

Samuel Hogan was born November 9 1915 in Corsicana, Texas.  He grew up in the Rio Grande valley enjoying the outdoors as he always has since.  In 1934 he received a 2nd alternative appointment to West Point from Congressman Milton West of the 8th Congressional District.  Overcoming some problems with plebe math he graduated in the upper 15 of his class in 1938.  He was the first man in the class to choose Cavalry whic was horse at the time.  After several years of peacetime training and the transition to Armored vehicles, the country approached war.  Sam at the head of 3/33 AR 3rd AD saw combat from the Normandy hedgerows to the Elbe.  The unit was involved in closing the Falaise Gap, the tough fighting on the German border, the Battle of the Bulge, the liberation of Nordhausen prison camp annd ended near Dessau on the Elbe.  Peacetime duty followed highlighted by Hogan's presidency of a War Crimes court sitting in Ludwigsburg trying Germans accused of beating and killing American parachuted bomber crews.  Leaving Europe, he reported to Columbia University Law School graduating in May 1950.  Following periods as 2nd Armored Division JAG, CGSC, Chief of Staff, 4th AD, Pentagon duty, further study at George Washington University and Defense Intelligence Agency, COL Hogan approached retirement.  His last posting as Defense Attache in Quito, Ecuador was his last.  In August 1968 came retirement and COL Hogan spent the next 23 years living in the countryside and taking sportsmen to the Ecuadorean jungle.  Currently he resides in Corpus Christi, Texas.  He is married to the former Susana Corella and has three children.  Eldest son Patrick is a systems technician working in San Antonio, middle daughter Mary is an army Major at Fort Hood Texas and son William is an army Captain based out of Austin, Texas.
