Ellen White: Gnostic False Prophetess

________________________________________________________________________

The Bible says:

_______________________________________________________________________________________________

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." "And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us" (John 1:1, 14a KJV.)

"Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood." (Acts 20:28 KJV.)

"The first man [Adam] is from the earth, earthy; the second man [Jesus] is from heaven. As is the earthy, so also are those who are earthy; and as is the heavenly, so also are those who are heavenly. Just as we have borne the image of the earthy, we will also bear the image of the heavenly." (1 Corinthians 15:47-49 NASB.)

"For in him [Christ] dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily." (Colossians 2:9 KJV.)

"Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world." (1 John 4:1-3 KJV.)

"For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist." (2 John 1:7 KJV.)

In the above two quotes, John is warning against the teachings of the Gnostics, who taught the following:

"The Gnostics wrote apocryphal Gospels (such as the Gospel of Thomas and the Gospel of Mary) to substantiate their claim that the risen Jesus told his disciples the true, Gnostic interpretation of his teachings: Christ, the divine spirit, inhabited the body of the man Jesus and did not die on the cross but ascended to the divine realm from which he had come. The Gnostics thus rejected the atoning suffering and death of Christ and the resurrection of the body. They also rejected other literal and traditional interpretations of the Gospels." Ellen G. White denies Jesus' divinity, denies Jesus' humanity, says we can become divine

In the following quotes, you will see that Ellen G. White says that Christ only had a "guise of humanity." You will see that she denies that Jesus' humanity/human nature/body is God/divine. She taught that Christ only wore humanity as a garment. She taught the Gnostic view that the divinity/divine spirit of the Son of God only inhabited the body of the man Jesus--in other words separating Jesus' humanity and divinity and making Him into two persons. That is antichrist! She says that Christ's divinity did not die, only His humanity died. So only a human died for us? God did not have to die for us? Just a mere man could do it? That is blasphemy. Ellen G. White clearly teaches another Jesus (2 Corinthians 11:3-4), not the Jesus Christ of the Bible, Who is God the Son made flesh.

"In stooping to take the habiliments of a man, Christ did not cease to be God. The human did not become divine, nor the divine human. Christ lived the law of God, showing all men and women that through His grace they can do the same. By faith, in His humanity Christ saw what we are permitted to see by faith--the atoning sacrifice connected with the Lord upon the mercy seat." (Manuscript Releases, Volume Twelve, page 415, paragraph 3.)

"There is no one who can explain the mystery of the incarnation of Christ. Yet we know that He came to this earth and lived as a man among men. The man Christ Jesus was not the Lord God Almighty, yet Christ and the Father are one. The Deity did not sink under the agonizing torture of Calvary, yet it is nonetheless true that 'God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.'" (Lift Him Up, page 235, paragraph 3.)

"Jesus, the world's Redeemer, could only keep the commandments of God, in the same way that humanity can keep them. [...] We must practice the example of Christ, bearing in mind His Sonship and His humanity. It was not God that was tempted in the wilderness, nor a god that was to endure the contradiction of sinners against himself. It was the Majesty of heaven who became a man--humbled Himself to our human nature." (Manuscript Releases, Volume Six, page 342, paragraphs 1-2.)

"Was the human nature of the Son of Mary changed into the divine nature of the Son of God? No; the two natures were mysteriously blended in one person--the man Christ Jesus.... When Christ was crucified, it was His human nature that died. Deity did not sink and die; that would have been impossible." (Lift Him Up, page 76, paragraph 2.) (Note: "impossible"?? "For with God nothing shall be impossible." Luke 1:37 KJV.)

"He who had said, 'I lay down my life, that I might take it again,' came forth from the grave to life that was in Himself. Humanity died: divinity did not die. In His divinity, Christ possessed the power to break the bonds of death." (The Faith I Live By, page 51, paragraph 3.)

"In Christ are united the divine and the human. The Creator and the creature, the nature of God, whose law had been transgressed, and nature of Adam, the transgressor, meet in Jesus,--the Son of God and the Son of man." (Bible Training School, 02-01-1908, paragraph 4.) (Note: Jesus is a creature?! What blasphemy!!! He is not a created being; He is NOT a creature in any sense!!! Ellen has a different Jesus!!)

"Christ came to earth as God in the guise of humanity. He ascended to heaven as the King of saints. His ascension was worthy of His exalted character. He ascended from the Mount of Olives in a cloud of angels, who triumphantly escorted Him to the city of God." (The Signs of the Times, 08-16-1899, paragraph 4.)

"A young man clothed in shining garments was sitting by the tomb. It was the angel who had rolled away the stone. He had taken the guise of humanity that he might not alarm these friends of Jesus." (The Desire of Ages, page 788, paragraph 3.) (Note: compare with the next quote, where she says the same thing about Christ!)

"For a moment the divinity of Christ flashed through His guise of humanity." (The Desire of Ages, page 707, paragraph 2.)

"Christ and His angels come to us in the form of human beings, and as we converse with them, light and grace and joy fill our hearts. Our spiritual energies are quickened, and we are strengthened to do the will of God. Though we know it not, we are conversing with an angel, an angel in human guise." (Manuscript Releases, Volume Nine, page 211, paragraph 1.) (Note: Here she is clearly saying that Christ is no more human than an angel! Also, note the last sentence, and read the paragraph carefully. Christ is only an angel?! What blasphemy!)

"The highest of all angels, He girded Himself with a towel, and washed the feet of His disciples." (Manuscript Releases, Volume Twelve, page 400, paragraph 1.) (Note: again she says Christ is an angel!)

"Before his fall, Satan was, next to Christ, the highest angel in heaven." (Advent Review and Sabbath Herald, 01-14-1909, paragraph 4.) (Note: again she calls Christ an angel, just one step above Satan!!!! WHAT BLASPHEMY!!!!!)

"The humble Nazarene asserts His real nobility. He rises above humanity, throws off the guise of sin and shame, and stands revealed, the Honored of the angels, the Son of God, One with the Creator of the universe." (The Desire of Ages, page 210, paragraph 1.) (Note: Jesus had a "guise of sin"??! Blasphemy!)

"Beneath the guise of humanity they discerned the glory of the Son of God." (The Desire of Ages, page 412, paragraph 1.)

"The salvation of a world is at stake. He resisted the archdeceiver. In behalf of man He must conquer as a man, and in the very same manner man must conquer by 'It is written.' His own words under the guise of humanity would be misjudged, misinterpreted, falsified. His own words spoken as the divine Son of God could not be falsified. It will be in the last great day when every case receives as his works have been; it will be the final and eternal condemnation of the devil and all his sympathizers and all who have served under his jurisdiction and have identified themselves with him." (S.D.A. Bible Commentary, Vol. 4, page 1163, paragraph 5.) (Note: here she clearly states that Jesus, the man on earth, was NOT the Son of God. She says that Christ's words spoken on earth were "under the guise of humanity" and were not spoken as the divine Son of God! What blasphemy Ellen G. White teaches!!!)

"Christ took upon Himself humanity for us. He clothed His divinity, and divinity and humanity were combined. He showed that that law which Satan declared could not be kept, could be kept. Christ took humanity to stand here in our world, to show that Satan had lied. He took humanity upon Himself to demonstrate that with divinity and humanity combined, man could keep the law of Jehovah. Separate humanity from divinity, and you can try to work out your own righteousness from now till Christ comes, and it will be nothing but a failure." (Faith and Works, page 71, paragraph 1.) (Note: so we can become as divine as Jesus?! That's what Ellen says!)

"He took humanity upon Him, but He did not leave His divinity; He clothed His divinity with humanity. He took humanity upon Himself in order to carry humanity through that commandment-keeping people to give the testimony to the whole universe of heaven. He stood in humanity to bear all the battles and conflicts as our Head, thus elevating with God every human being on the face of the earth. Now, Christ took humanity that humanity might take His divinity. He took our nature that He might give to human nature His nature.... We read in 2 Peter 1 that you are to be divine partakers of Jesus Christ, and there is not one of the very simplest in the institution but that he can take hold of the divine nature through the knowledge of Jesus Christ who gave His life to buy us. Then we must consider we are bought with a price--even the precious blood of the Son of God. God is not going to let us drift this way and that way with Satan's temptations, but if you will stand in Christ and if you will be determined that you will make of yourself all that God intended you should make, you can become as precious in the sight of God as Daniel was--beloved of God." (Sermons and Talks, Volume Two, page 126, paragraphs 2-3.) (Note: We can "take His divinity"?! What blasphemy! Also note: she MISQUOTES 2 Peter 1. It does NOT say that we will be "divine partakers"! We are not going to be "divine" anything! Once again, she is blaspheming the Lord God Almighty!)

"Christ alone was able to represent the Deity. He who had been in the presence of the Father from the beginning, He who was the express image of the invisible God, was alone sufficient to accomplish this work. No verbal description could reveal God to the world. Through a life of purity, a life of perfect trust and submission to the will of God, a life of humiliation such as even the highest seraph in heaven would have shrunk from, God Himself must be revealed to humanity. In order to do this, our Saviour clothed His divinity with humanity. He employed the human faculties, for only by adopting these could He be comprehended by humanity. Only humanity could reach humanity. He lived out the character of God through the human body which God had prepared for Him. He blessed the world by living out in human flesh the life of God, thus showing that He had the power to unite humanity to divinity." (Selected Messages, Book 1, page 264, paragraph 2.)

"Christ had two natures, the nature of a man and the nature of God. In him divinity and humanity were combined.... He exhibited a perfect humanity, combined with deity; and by preserving each nature distinct, he has given to the world a representation of the character of God and the character of a perfect man. He shows us what God is, and what man may become--godlike in character." (The General Conference Bulletin, 10-01-1899, paragraph 20.)

"'This is My commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you' This is a wonderful statement. In our lives we are to exemplify the love of Christ. Then, like Him, we shall labor most earnestly for the salvation of sinners. He desires that we shall abide in Him, that He may work through us in keeping before the world such a representation of the infinite love of God as He Himself gave. Through our lives the respondent may receive an assurance that it is possible to be partakers of the divine nature, and by taking hold of this divinity win the victory that all must win who shall enter in through the gates into the city.... He who was one with the Father laid aside His royal robe and kingly crown, and in coming to this world clothed His divinity with humanity. Had He come in all His glory, escorted by myriads of angels, no man could have endured the sight. But He took upon Himself humanity, that He might perfect in His own life a humanity that we can lay hold of and be united with divinity. The divine nature is to be imparted to every true seeker after Jesus Christ. Divinity must be united with humanity. Thus humanity may be partakers of the divine nature, that men may be able to escape the corruption that is in the world through lust." (Sermons and Talks, page 294, paragraph 1.)

Ellen G. White says that we can become divine

"Jesus saw in this ruler just the help He needed if the young man would become a colaborer with Him in the work of salvation. If he would place himself under Christ's guidance, he would be a power for good. In a marked degree the ruler could have represented Christ; for he possessed qualifications, which, if he were united with the Saviour, would enable him to become a divine force among men. Christ, seeing into his character, loved him. Love for Christ was awakening in the ruler's heart; for love begets love. Jesus longed to see him a co-worker with Him. He longed to make him like Himself, a mirror in which the likeness of God would be reflected. He longed to develop the excellence of his character, and sanctify it to the Master's use. If the ruler had then given himself to Christ, he would have grown in the atmosphere of His presence. If he had made this choice, how different would have been his future!" (The Desire of Ages, page 519, paragraph 3.) (Note: the rich young ruler possessed qualifications which would enable him to become a divine force?! What blasphemy!)

"Christ's true followers will represent Him in character. They will turn aside from worldly policy, and every day will train themselves for service in God's cause. In active service they find peace and hope, efficiency and power. They breathe the atmosphere of heaven, the only atmosphere in which the soul can truly live. By obedience they are made partakers of the divine nature. The doing of the living principles of God's law makes them one with Christ; and because He lives, they will live also. At the last day He will raise them as a part of himself. He declares, 'As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me.' 'This is the will of Him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on Him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.' Christ became one with us in order that we might become one with Him in divinity." (Advent Review and Sabbath Herald, 06-18-1901, paragraph 7.) (Note: "one with Him in divinity"?! What blasphemy!!!)

Ellen G. White says that Christ was not always God

"The Scriptures clearly indicate the relation between God and Christ, and they bring to view as clearly the personality and individuality of each." "God is the Father of Christ; Christ is the Son of God. To Christ has been given an exalted position. He has been made equal with the Father. All the counsels of God are opened to His Son." (Testimonies for the Church, Volume Eight, page 268, paragraphs 1 & 3.)

"The Eternal Father, the unchangeable one, gave his only begotten Son, tore from his bosom Him who was made in the express image of his person, and sent him down to earth to reveal how greatly he loved mankind." (Advent Review and Sabbath Herald, 07-09-1895, paragraph 14.) (Note: Here Ellen says that Christ was "made"--in other words He was created and is not eternal!)

"Jesus said, 'Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life.' He gave his life for the sheep. The only-begotten Son of God accepts all the liabilities that fall upon the transgressor of the law, vindicates its unchangeable and holy character. The death of Christ removes every argument that Satan could bring against the precepts of Jehovah. Satan has declared that men could not enter the kingdom of heaven unless the law was abolished and a way devised by which transgressors could be reinstated into the favor of God, and made heirs of heaven. He made the claim that the law must be changed, that the reins of government must be slackened in heaven, that sin must be tolerated, and sinners pitied and saved in their sins. But every such plea was cast aside when Christ died as a substitute for the sinner. He who was made equal with God bore the sin of the transgressor, and thereby made a channel whereby the love of God could be communicated to a fallen world, and his grace and power imparted to those who came to Christ in penitence for their sin." (The Signs of the Times, 02-05-1894, paragraph 10.) (Note: Here Ellen says that Christ became equal with God at some point in the past--what blasphemy!)

We have seen that Ellen G. White denies that Jesus Christ is fully human and denies that He is fully divine. We have seen that Ellen G. White says that Christ only had a "guise of humanity." We've also seen that she denies that Jesus' humanity/human nature/body is God/divine. That is blasphemy! Also, we've seen that she says that we can become divine, and that we can be as divine as the man Jesus was! Also, she says that Christ was an angel, that He was "made," and that He was not always God but was "made equal with God"! Ellen G. White clearly teaches another Jesus (2 Corinthians 11:3-4), not the Jesus Christ of the Bible Who is God the Son made flesh. We therefore conclude that Ellen G. White does NOT pass the test of 1 John 4:1-3 and 2 John 1:7, and is therefore a blasphemous false prophet, a deceiver, and an antichrist.
