7/10/03-
I
meant to post this yesterday, but forgot... D'OH! Next week on FX
they're showing X-men as part of their DVD
on TV lineup. Basically, they show the movie with a bunch
of extra goodies that you'd normally find on a DVD- alternate endings,
deleted scenes, interviews with the cast and crew and and other
good stuff. Even though I have the video and original DVD, I'll
still be taping it in case they show anything I don't already have
for my Hugh "collection." The movie airs July 16th
at 8pm EST/PST on FX.
Check your local listings for details! And once again, I'm adding
in the blurb about heading over to JACKMAN'S
LANDING if you want more Hugh news. It's pretty rare nowadays
that I update in here, and I hate for you guys to miss out!
FX
even sent me a banner to use for the movie- normally I don't use
them, as I think they tend to clutter things up.... BUT I do like
the whole "DVD on TV" idea, so I'm going to go ahead and
post it. How's that for a run-on sentence? ;) What I want to know
is where's the Wolvie banner??
7/09/03-
As
some of you might have noticed, I haven't updated this place in
*forever*. However, it's not due to lack of interest in Hugh or
anything crazy like that. Most of the problems lie with the fact
that with all the pictures and such on this site, I can't afford
to pay for server space to have all the nifty things like FTP accessability-
and uploading hundreds of pictures/clips a few files at a time is
a real bitch. A few people have approached me about sending along
money to help pay for server space, but as this is an entertainment
site only and I don't own the copyrights to the images/clips, I
can't in good conscience take money for other peoples' artwork (because,
let's face it, pretty much any picture of Hugh is a work of art
*wink*). So the site will have to stay on here at Geocities (blurgh),
and most of my updates will be written out in the guestbook,
which functions as a sort of message board. Most of the Hugh-related
updates are proceeded by a little graphic that looks like a pushpin,
so keep your eyes peeled for those. Also, the link for the guestbook
has changed, so if you've already bookmarked it (bless your heart),
go ahead and edit the bookmark. I encourage anyone who's interested
in keeping up with the guestbook/chatroom
to bookmark them, so that if Geocities ever goes crazy (it often
does, as it has a ridiculous hourly bandwidth limit) you can still
access those features of the site.
If
you're really hungry for the most up-to-date Hugh news, I highly
reccomend heading over to .JACKMAN'S
LANDING. Those gals have all the latest scoops on Hugh,
as well as an amazing amount of pictures.
7/25/02-
Reminder:Paperback Hero is being
shown at 1:30pm on Friday, July 26th on the Women's Entertainment
Channel (formerly known as the Romance Channel). A big thanks to
everyone (especially our Ratty) for posting reminders!!!
Also,
according to the gals at Jackman's
Landing, Hugh won't be doing the Clancy of the Overflow
project. Once he wraps up Xmen 2, he's going to start filming
for Van Helsing, and then after that finishes, he's start
working on the Broadway production of The Boy From Oz. Of
course, I'd love to see Hugh in loads of projects, but can understand
that he can't be in *everything*... :sniffle:
6/21/02-
Pluggin' along at adding pictures to the new
servers. As far as I know, all the "old" piccies I had
up since the last site renovation are back up, and now I'm back
into putting the stuff back up before that. As of the moment, I've
just finished re-adding the Halifax
picture section. Ooooo! Ahhhhh!
6/20/02-
Well, as fast as they came, they have gone....
I'm talking about the site reports by 00Hugh. After being on the
Xmen 2 site for the past several days, our pal has decided
to not continue with the site reports. This is what she had to say:
"Hi,
I'm not sure about reporting anymore. I've talked with the director
a few times and I kind of feel bad about it. I don't want to give
anything away or that. If you don't mind me not reporting anymore.
I know people appreciate it but I don't want to break his confidence.
Thanks."
Of
course, I respect 00Hugh's decision, and I hope all of you out there
will too. I never wanted her to feel pressured to share secret details
about the movie- I just hope that she continues to have a good time
on the set. Maybe I can see if she'd share the pictures that she
got of herself with some of the cast and Singer, but there's no
pressure there either. Thanks for sharing with us 00Hugh, even if
only briefly!
6/19/02-
Second update: Our "fiend on the scene,"
00Hugh, has given us another Xmen 2 site report! I
can't wait to see (and hopefully post) the pictures!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The
Canadians have caught onto Xmen 2 hype! Catch some site reports
from Royal Roads University, set of Xmen 2:
"Halle
who?" 6/18/01, by Michael D. Reid (The Times Colonist)
X-Men
2 Shoot in Victoria 6/18/01, by "Xorply" (Superherohype.com)
A
Day of Storm Chasing 6/18/01, by Mike Roberts (The Province)
6/15/02-
Our very own Canadian Whistlebinky spy, "00Hugh," has
sent me the first of hopefully
many Xmen 2 site reports. Thanks, 00Hugh! If
you lose track of the report links on this page, check out over
in the archives
section.
On
that note, I'm planning to switch this place over to another free
server. I'm having problems with Geocities' tranfer rate limits,
which is the reason why you guys aren't always able to get into
the site. Supposedly the new server has no data limit, but we'll
see how it works out. I'm keeping all the info on Geocities, so
if the new server doesn't work out, we can always come back here.
I'll let you know once the changes are made- you'll probably notice
that the first page to the site has changed over to a link to the
new place. Otherwise, things are staying the same.
The
benefit for you guys (besides actually being able to get into the
site) is that the new server still allows people to use FTP programs
to upload files. That means it won't be such a hassle for me to
upload lots of files at once- like those beloved screen caps we
all miss!!
6/14/02-
Well, here's an all-new bit of information from Yahoo
News: apparently our Hugh is in negotiations to star in
Universal Pictures' action-adventure feature Van Helsing
for writer-director Stephen Sommers, who also will produce with
his partner Bob Ducsay. Click
here for the full Hollywood Reporter article, written
by Zorianna Kit.
6/11/02-
Second update: Here's a nice DVD
review of Kate & Leopold from the folks at dvdfile.com.
And if for some reason, that link doesn't work, check out the transcript
of the review here.
Well,
I've finally gotten off my butt and made up the reviews
page- just in time for today's release of Kate &
Leopold on DVD! If you haven't seen it yet, check out the reviews
to see what you think. Every reviewer out there seems to think Hugh
did a great job, even if they weren't keen on romantic comedies.
Keep in mind, the much-missed tub scene is supposed to be on the
DVD! Woo hoo! Note:
You can always get to the review page through the archives
button from the other site pages. I'm still working on the page,
trying to sort out a bunch of links I've bookmarked over the months,
but those reviews should get you started.
As
for the rest of the archives
section, I'm hoping to clean that up a bit soon- check out which
links still work and that kind of thing. I do have several more
transcripts of the various interviews floating about, and they should
be up soon, even if the source link for the story doesn't work anymore.
And
then there are the pictures! I am hoping to add some great new pics
that some very lucky fans took of Hugh from the recent Carousel
trip, but I'm still waiting to hear from a few of those people.
No rush, though. ;) I also haven't forgotten about reposting a bunch
of the older pics I have, such as screen caps and such. Ahh, gotta
love screen caps!
Finally,
a reminder to set your VCRs tonight for AFI's 100 Years.... 100
Passions, which broadcasts tonight on CBS. Check your local
listings for details.
6/08/02-
Lots of goodies today! First off is a
review of Hugh's performance in Carousel, by the
New York Times'
Ben Brantley:
"Certain
people, no matter what their size, seem to turn into giants whenever
they set foot onstage. The Australian actor Hugh Jackman,
as it happens, is a tall man. But that doesn't account for the towering
presence he emanated on Thursday night at Carnegie Hall. It's not
that Mr. Jackman, a fledgling movie star ("Kate and
Leopold," "X-Men"), is larger than life. It's that
he makes real life look large."
"Mr.
Jackman, a vibrant Curly in the recent London revival
of "Oklahoma!," can switch on an embattled air of virility
that, combined with his conversational way with a song, makes him
a natural for the hardy heroes of Rodgers and Hammerstein.
Mr.
Jackman put his own stamp on the role of a man of fatally divided
impulses. He is indeed made for the musical stage. Let's hope that
Hollywood doesn't make a prisoner of him."
Read
the whole review- there's more about Hugh! And thanks Khaki for
finding the article!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here's
another Carousel
review from the New
York Daily News, submitted by PilotGirl:
"...Jackman,
known to filmgoers as Meg Ryan's co-star in "Kate & Leopold,"
has great presence, a sharp sense of humor and a warmth that filled
the house." - Howard Kissel, Daily News Drama Critic
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
....and
a third
Carousel review for the day from Newsday's
Justin Davidson- thanks again, PilotGirl!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now
on to some non-Carousel Hugh items! These tidbits were all
brought to our attention by Khaki- gawd, I wish I had her nose for
news!
First
up is a great
article from www.moviemafia.com.au
about Hugh and his wife, Deborra-Lee Furness- they're finally going
to be doing more work together on a project called Clancy Of
The Overflow. Woo hoo!
Second
is a wee
blurb from www.if.com.au
about another project Hugh's supposed to be working on, Grand
Theft Parsons.
And
third is a "reminder" that Hugh is still listed as part
of the Pride
And Glory project, according to www.upcomingmovies.com.
Yay!
6/07/02-
Third time's the charm! I'm trying to update these as I find them-
I was looking for a Carousel review from the Associated
Press earlier, and here
it is! Here are some highlights about Hugh:
"Jackman,
an unknown quantity to New York stage audiences, rose to the occasion.
His voice may not have the heft of a Raitt or an Alfred Drake, but
it will more than do. With his flashing, dark eyes and uncommon
good looks, Jackman has an old-fashioned stage presence.
His Billy, bearded and wearing a striped sailor's shirt, knew how
to charm Julie--and the audience. " - MICHAEL KUCHWARA
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here's
a second update for the day! According to several lucky fans who
were able to see Hugh last night in Carousel, the word is he's set
to play the lead in The Boy From Oz on Broadway in the fall of 2003.
Here's an article about it from nypost.com:
Treasure
Chest by Michael Riedel. I should point out that the
article doesn't put Hugh in the best light- but I can't blame Hugh
for wanting to become more established in Hollywood, so tough on
them!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And
here's a review of Carousel from Broadway.com:
In
Concert by Ken Mandelbaum. Here are some excerpts about
Hugh:
"Jackman
doesn't possess the richest or most luxurious baritone; the range
isn't enormous (a couple of top notes were pinched), and the intonation
isn't perfect. But he puts over musical numbers with an attractive,
wiry sound that's full of character. And he's a real musical theatre
leading man, with all of the magnetism and command required. He
handled the challenges of the "Soliloquy" adeptly, and
was impressive in "The Highest Judge of All" (a number
cut from the RNT/LCT revival). One felt that Jackman would
have been stronger in an actual production of Carousel, where he
would have been able to play the entire book, and would have had
more rehearsal time to plumb the depths of the role. But it was
good to at last see this stellar performer singing on a US stage.
"
"At
the final curtain call, Jackman and Raitt [the
original Billy Bigelow]
embraced, and it was the kind of sentimental moment one doesn't
get to see often enough. "
All
I can say is, way to go, Hugh!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Minnie
sent me an email from her trip to the show!!! Here it is- she wasn't
able to get into the guestbook
earlier...
"Yesterday
I got all gussied up and had my hair fixed like Meg's in the last
scene in K&L. I looked so ompletely different! The gown worked
fine and never been so dolled up before, felt weird! Maya
and the 'gang' and I had a few drinks before the concert. Maya and
I drank Aussie wine in honor of Hugh's big night.
We
had front row seats which were awesome! Hugh stood in front of us
for the first half of the first act. He was scrumptious as usual.
And he was nervous as you-know-what, we could see his slacks quivvering!
He was five to ten feet from us and looked at us a few times! What
a performance too! Has one hell of a voice on him, he does!
Hugh
and I did get to talk a good deal. I told him how wonderful a talent
he is and how I enjoy him in whatever he does. How I admire him.
Then somehow got on the subject of Kate & Leopold. I
told him I met him on the set last year. He said "Oh yeah?"
I said, yes we met after the shoot and I gave you the photo of a
painting I did. He interrupted me and said "OH YEAH! You and
I met in Brooklyn, I remember you!" I asked him to have a pic
together, and Maya took it and then I grabbed Maya and asked Hugh
if it would be ok to take a pic with her. He was very happy (of
course!) and was in a jovial mood. I could just eat him up! Maya
was delighted that I got her photo with him. We had a great time!
Anyhoo,
wet, cold and tired we made it back to the hostel around 1am...gawd.
Dead tired. Hope to have more to write about. I miss you guys! I
will see you Sunday, and maybe I will write more on
my site about the trip...still deciding if I should or not.
"
Thanks
so much for the report, Minnie!! I'm so happy you and Maya (and
the rest of the gang!) got to see our man live in Carousel! So far,
all the fan reviews have been great, and once again Hugh has shown
how gracious and kind he is to the fans. THANK YOU, HUGH!!!
Also
in TV Guide,
a review of the Kate and Leopold DVD (due out June 11th):
"The Duke of Albany(Hugh Jackman) is transported from the late
1800s to today's Manhattan, where he woos a jaded executive(Meg
Ryan). Although formulaic, this time-tripping comedy works surprisingly
well, thanks to a witty script and the stars' chemistry.
Fellow
Hugh fan Kathy Chelsen has submitted an article about Hugh from
a Croatian entertainment magazine, Hollywood. Check
out the article here. Thanks
Kathy! (Note: I'll post the author's name and publication date
once I get it!)
Shuler Hensley won a Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical
as Jud Frye in Oklahoma!!! Woo hoo!!! Congratulations, Shuler!
For those of you who don't know this already, Shuler also starred
in the Royal National Theatre production of Oklahoma! with
Hugh in London.
And
for those of you going to Carousel at Carnegie Hall on the
6th, I hope you all have a wonderful time! Here's hoping you get
to see Hugh before or after the show! And Hugh, break a leg! :)
Second update: Well, our pal Khaki has kindly found the news
blurb about Sunset Boulevard for us.... Here it is from Dark
Horizons, May 30, 2002:
Sunset
Boulevard: There's always no shortage of rumours about Andrew
Lloyd Weber musicals becoming films...and here's a bunch more with
thanks to 'Adam':
"After
Bombay Dreams opens in the West End later this year, Webber
wants to really concentrate on getting movies made. Now that both
"Cats" and "StarlightExpress" have closed in
London he could do with the money.
Encouraged
by the success of the UK tour he wants to fast track "Sunset
Boulevard" for production. They have outlined who they want
for the picture and are on the verge of starting to approach them.
Either Joel Schumacher or Skekar Kapur is wanted for director, whilst
Glenn Close, Bette Midler and Liza Minnelli are the favorites for
Norma Desmond.
Edward
Norton, Robert Downey, Jr and Hugh Jackman are wanted for
the male lead, Joe Gillis. Kate Winslet, Faith Hill and Martine
McCutcheon are in line for Betty, with Patrick Stewart as
Max and Albert Finney as Cecil B. De Mille. Julie Taymor, director
of The Lion King on Broadway is wanted for a re-make of "Jesus
Christ Superstar"
Toonces'
Note: Hugh Jackman AND Patrick Stewart?? Woo hoo!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Also
of interest- Go
here for a review of the Kate and Leopold DVD (Due
out June 11th). Especially of interest: seven deleted scenes, some
of which include:
* While
chasing Stuart, early on, a ball-point pen is dropped. Leopold is
seen sitting in the
bathtub admiring the foreign object while talking to Otis.
* We
return to the elevator shaft that Stuart has fallen into. This scene
was to establish
the fact that Stuart was not dead.
* Leopold,
sitting on the couch in front of the TV, imagining that his 19th
century friend,
Otis, is with him.
* J.J.
(Bradley Whitford) giving a hilarious and rousing mprovised extension
of his speech.
5/31/02-
According to Jackman's
Landing, Dark
Horizons is reporting that Hugh is still in the lead for
the main role in the film version of Sunset Boulevard. I
have to admit, I didn't even realize that a movie was being made,
but I'd LOVE to see Hugh reprise his role as Joe Gillis. I was trying
to track down the actual blurb from DH, but no luck yet.... It's
probably staring me right in the face, too!
5/29/02-Second
Update: Quickie blurb from Yahoo

5/29/02-
Holy crap, I can't believe it's been almost 2 months since I've
posted in here! A lot of stuff has happened since I last wrote in
here, most of which has kept me from doing site updates. I'll save
you guys from the "sob story," but I will say I haven't
given up on working on this place. I'm just trying to find better
ways to keep you guys informed- and when I can't do it, to help
you find people who can!
That
being said, I've decided to try something new in here and in my
guestbook.
As some of you know, the guestbook
is used as a sort of message board, with regulars who post in there
all the time. I've found myself on more than one occasion posting
news info there but not in here- basically, I get too lazy to retype
things out. So what I've decided to do is to continue to post in
there, and if there's something good, I'll copy it in here. Or if
you happen to go to the guestbook
first, you can find my posts about Hugh by looking for the posts
that have a pushpin piccy next to them like this:
I've
asked for other Hugh fans to do the same- if you want to post a
Hugh snippet in the guestbook,
great! You can do us a favor by adding the pushpin pic (its in Bravenet's
list of smilies- you just type [pushpin] ) and if I post the news
blurb in here, I'll include your screen name. Just let us know if
you got the news from another site like Jackman's
Landing or a news/magazine site. I'd like to give credit
where credit is due!
Okay,
back to the Hugh news! As for the possible role in Sahara,
I'm not sure where that's going. There's a bunch of conflicting
info, and it's hard to know what's what. The best source for Hugh
info like that is Jackman's
Landing- they keep their news up to date. Gina's
Hugh Jackman Home is also quite good, but I don't know the
last time Gina updated, because as most of us know, she is mucho
busy with school coming up in the fall (WOO HOO!) I'm still considering
her place as the sister site to mine, but there's no pressure from
me for her to do news updates- I want her to get a fantastic job,
get rich & famous and then give me a job! :P :)
And
that reminds me- this weekend, that show Entertainers is
supposed to be on, and it's supposed to be an interview with Hugh.
I don't know if it's a repeat, and you guys will have to check with
your local listings
to see if you even get the show. I get it here in the Boston area
on UPN/38 at 3AM on Saturday morning. Also, it looks like there's
supposed to be a Richard Rodgers tribute on the Oscars this coming
Sunday, so maybe our Hugh will be in that??? I remember seeing somewhere
that he might be a presenter anyway, so get your VCR's ready.
****************************************************************************
My
pal Gina and I have decided to make our places "sister sites!"
What does that mean for you??? It means that you can get the latest
info and news articles about our man! Gina's got the stuff when
it comes to tracking down tidbits about Hugh, while I'm more of
the photo fiend. So, head on over to Gina's "What's New Hugh?"
section- and don't forget to check out the rest of her site!!
As
for this page, I will still do the occasional update- but it will
usually be more about site specific info. :)
WHAT'S
NEW, HUGH? AT GINA'S
HUGH JACKMAN HOME
3/16/02-
Spring break! Woo hoo! I spent my first day goofing off, and went
to see Ice Age. Today I went to see The Time Machine, but now I'm
getting some more Hugh piccies back up. Right now, I've pretty much
got the Paperback Hero section done, and I'm thinking I'll get the
Sunset Blvd. pics up too.
The
down side is that as of April 2nd, Geocities will stop their FTP
service, so it will be a pain in the arse for me to upload bunches
of pics at once. So, I'll try to get a mess o' stuff up this coming
week while I'm off from school. Thanks for being so patient! :)
2/27/02-
Well, I'm up early and I found this in my inbox, so I thought I'd
share! Happy Hump Day everyone!
Premiere
Sets Slate of First Film Releases
Wed Feb 27, 3:33 AM ET
By
Michael Fleming
NEW
YORK (Variety) - One year after its formation, the Premiere Marketing
& Distribution Group has set its first slate of 10 releases,
including films starring Bill Murray, Sigourney Weaver and Kim Basinger.
TPM&DG
was hatched by Mitchell Goldman, former New Line Cinema president
and chief operating officer of distribution and marketing. For a
set distribution fee, the company provides distribution on 2,000
U.S. screens for mainstream product, plus a minimum $16 million
in marketing. The benefit for financiers is that they hang on to
their film copyrights.
"We
have the same upside as studios, which make most of their money
through distribution fees, but we won't put it into overhead and
production," Goldman said. "The numbers will work well
for us if we pick the right pictures and do the right job in marketing
and distribution.
"Producers
can retain ownership of their films, which is something they'd never
get at a studio. ... We have a deal with Sony for video and DVD
and with Showtime for cable, and the combination makes our fees
competitive to studios."
Goldman
said TPM&DG will place its films with all the major chains,
trying to slot pictures where they won't get crushed by big-budget
studio fare.
For
instance, the company chose June 7 for its first release, "Slap
Her, She's French," a Melanie Mayron-directed teen comedy about
a girl (Piper Perabo) whose popularity is endangered by a French
exchange student.
"Early
June is usually light, and with 'Spider-Man' opening May 2 and 'Star
Wars' May 15, there should be plenty of screens available in early
June before the studios come out with July 4 product," Goldman
said. "Theater chains like Regal, AMC and United Artists have
told us they need and want
the product."
TPM&DG
chose the usually slack time of Aug. 23 to release "Madison,"
an action film involving hydroplane boat racing, starring Jim Caviezel,
Jake Lloyd, Mary McCormack and Bruce Dern.
As
for 2003, it will bow "Tales Not Told," a thriller that
marks the directorial debut of veteran producer Debra Hill on Jan.
10. Feb. 21 brings "Aurora," a Martha Coolidge-directed
drama starring Basinger, Joaquin Phoenix and Mandy Moore, about
a handsome drifter who becomes involved with a mother
and daughter in a Southern coastal resort.
There
are several films on the launch pad. "The Wedding Contract"
is a comedy to be directed by Robert Greenhut, from a script by
Howard Franklin, starring with Murray, Weaver and Isabella Rossellini.
"The
Legend of Mulan," at $80 million the most expensive English-language
picture produced in China, is about a 6th-century peasant girl who
poses as a male soldier to fight the invading Huns. Stanley Tong
("Rumble in the Bronx") directs and Chang Chen ("Crouching
Tiger, Hidden Dragon") plays the male
lead.
"Not
Human," a horror thriller about scientists trapped in a sealed
biodome with a dangerous, genetically created being, will be directed
by Steve Haberman from a script he wrote with Rudy DeLuca.
"One
Way Split," a Julian Simpson-directed heist drama, has Hugh
Jackman in negotiations to topline.
"Preacher,"
an adaptation of a comic book about a preacher who stands between
good and evil forces in an apocalyptic battle, will be directed
by Rachel Talalay ("Tank Girl").
"The
Prince" is a drama about an undercover cop infiltrating the
underworld in San Francisco, to be directed by Preston Whitmore
("Lockdown").
The
next 14 releases from the distribbery are also in the planning stages.

Good news: Hugh is slated to appear in the June 6th performance
of Carousel at Carnegie Hall! Wooo hoo! Tickets will be available
at the beginning of May- you can find out more information by visiting
Carnegie
Hall's website. Here's an article about the performance
from broadway.com:
Hugh
Jackman Set for Carousel at Carnegie Hall
As
Ken Mandelbaum mentioned on November 23, Hugh Jackman is
set to star in the upcoming Carousel concert at Carnegie Hall.
Jackman's representative confirmed to Broadway.com that the actor
will appear as Billy Bigelow in the musical.
Jackman
is a musical theater veteran. He appeared in Australian
productions of Beauty and the Beast and Sunset Boulevard. In 1998
he
earned mostly positive reviews for his performance as Curly in the
National Theatre production of Oklahoma!, for which he earned an
Olivier Award nomination.
Jackman's
film career took off with a high profile part in X-Men. He
has since appeared in the movies Someone Like You, Swordfish and
Kate
& Leopold, for which he earned a 2002 Golden Globe nomination.
Rodgers and Hammerstein's Carousel is based on the Ferenc Molnár
play
Liliom, and tells of the love affair between a charismatic carnival
barker
and a beautiful young mill worker.
Carousel,
which is part of the Richard Rodgers Centennial Celebration,
is scheduled to be performed on June 6 at Carnegie Hall. Ken Mandelbaum
previously reported than Audra McDonald (who won a Tony Award for
playing Carrie Pipperidge in the Lincoln Center revival of Carousel)
will
probably appear as Julie Jordan in the concert.

Now
for the Bad news: There are no plans to have the performance
recorded in either video or audio format. Eeek! Want to try to help
to change that? Write to the organizations listed below- if enough
of us send them some email to show that we're interested, maybe
the powers that be would reconsider. :)
Rodgers
& Hammerstein Organziation can be reached at news@rnh.com;
Carnegie
Hall can be reached at pressoffice@carnegiehall.org
Another possible group to contact is PBS-
they feature theatre work in their show, "Great Performances."
Here's the url to get to their feedback form: http://www.pbs.org/wnet/gperf/feedback/feedback.html
If
you do email the organizations listed, please keep the tone of the
message positive and even a little "professional." These
places need to know that not only do we love Hugh, but how his performance
can be an asset to have on video.
Thanks!

01/20/02-
Well, our Hugh didn't win the Best Actor in a Comedy/Musical at
the Golden Globes, but he was great as a presenter! We all know
he'll be reaping the awards soon enough!:) And congrats to Sting
for winning a Globe for "Until," from the Kate & Leopold
soundtrack.
As
for site stuff, I've been busy re-posting the archives and Open
Mike sections, so feel free to mosey on over there. The archives
include some fairly recent interviews with Hugh, so don't miss them!
I'm going to try to add more piccies tomorrow, but then on Wednesday
school starts so I won't be able to do quite as much.
01/20/02-
Right now, I'm in the middle of a major site revamp. That being
the case, I haven't had much time for scouring the net for news
about our man and posting it. As I type this, I've got a mess o'
Hugh articles and goodies that I'm copying into text files so that
if various news links go down, you can at least still read the articles
in my archives section. However, I don't want you to go without
Hugh news, so I highly reccomend going to the following sites for
all the latest on our man.

I'm
not saying I'll never post Hugh news here, so please drop by every
once in a while to peek. I also have a tendency to post news goodies
in my guestbook,
because I know some of the regulars there don't really go news hunting
themselves.
