Since 1990, Whispering Pines Farm has raised white and colored sheep for the handspinner. Our small flock of Lincoln and Shetland crosses are bred strictly for wool production. At times, our sheep are covered to offer the cleanest most luxiurious fiber to handspinners. Our sheep are professionally blade sheared by Kevin Ford, who makes sure we have no second cuts! Our small herd of llamas also offer a limited supply of wool to handspinners. English Angora rabbits have been bred at Whispering Pines Farm since 1983. These pure bred colored English Angoras are bred with the handspinner in mind. In recent years, we have added pure bred German Angoras and hybrids to our rabbitry. Over the years, our rabbits have won their share of ribbons for their wonderful wool. Established in 1855, Whispering Pines Farm lies at the foothills of the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains. Utilized during the Civil War for the crafting of caskets, the original log structure exists today as the family residence. The farm studio sets near the main house, and offers a view of the 145 year old tobacco barn that is now home to the llamas and flock of sheep. Whispering Pines Farm concentrates on the practice and teaching of handspinning. Kimber has been instructing classes and workshops since 1983. She takes pride in teaching the process of chossing the fleece, preparing it, dyeing, and then spinning into yarn. |
