Wheal Basset Farm and newly converted Old Basset Cottage are located in a deep valley about one mile from the north coast and are in an ideal location for visiting Cornwall. The cottage is eight miles from the county town of Truro, fourteen miles from the south coast and a forty minute drive to the far south west peninsula, Lands End. The sandy beach of Porthtowan is only a mile away, ideal for bathing and surfing with lifeguards in attendance. There are also interesting walks along the spectacular coastal path and further inland. View of Wheal Basset FarmIf you want to get away from it all for a quiet holiday - Wheal Basset Farm is ideal.

The farm is a small livestock farm which is operated under the Countryside Stewardship Scheme. The southern end of the farm was designated a County Wildlife Site in 1980. There are a good number of trout in the stream and pond which hold mallard, moorhen and other waterfowl. Barn owl are found in the valley and nested in an Elm tree five metres from the farm until the tree was lost. Several pairs of buzzard can be seen and also nest in the valley. Peregrine hunt for pigeon in the woods along the stream. Also, a pair of raven which normally nest on the cliffs at Porthtowan have made their home in a derelict engine house on land bordering the farm. The flora is particularly interesting, notably some patches of Dorset Heath.

Many attractions are within a short ride such as gliding, golf, tennis, surfing and pony riding. Other nearby towns include Truro, Perranporth, St. Ives and Falmouth along with many interesting surrounding villages. Porthtowan and Mount Hawke both have well stocked village stores and post offices.
