SEASON REVIEW

After last season anything would have been an improvement.  We were relegated to the one day grade, but were soon to be followed by the other senior reserve teams due to the fact that Easts pulled out.  We got off to an excellent start beating Taita B by 60 runs.  Then the rain came and the next 5 weeks were washed out.  This was followed up by a massive win over Te Aroha we scored 263/6 off our 40 overs and proceded to bowl them out for 108.  We lost the next two games but managed to find our way and won the next 8 games to get to the top of the grade.  Unfortunately for the next three weeks we didn't have enough players to field a team and as a result lost ground.  We came back to win the last game with one wicket to spare.  We were 74/9 chasing 109 when Erin joined Hols at the crease - there was some nerve wracking moments but they did it - leaving us in third place.

We were lucky enough to gain Sally Morrison as captin this year and she guided us to many a great game with some stand out performances along the way.  Including a magnificent century (109) vs Taita A.  Unfortunatly our batting didn't stand up to much this year but we made up for it in the bowling and fielding stakes often restricting the oponents to around 100.  Hammers 6/4 (8-5-4-6) against Naenae was one of the best seen this from the club this season.  However our running between the wickets often left alot to be desired sometimes both batsmen stoped for a chat at the same end?!?!?! CALLING GUYS.......

We played on some pretty dodgy grounds this season and had to endure obstacles such as hills, swamps pitches that were ripped and holes that the stumps dissapered down.  It also didn't help when there was other games on the park to distract us.  (Sally keep your eye on the ball - OK maybe I was at fault here to?!?!).  The weather also was a bit of a problem this season, now we know how the poms feel, but last last game was beyond a joke when we all looked like sumo wrestlers cause we had so many layers on.

Of course there was the usual highlights off the field.  Team outings to the Arizona bar was that a conincidence that the Australian cricket team was there or was someone looking to take someone for a ride?  Erin for locking her keys in the car, ahh erin where were you that weekend?...... Mel for her many personalities (top of the mornin to ya Mel).  The endless supply of McDonalds that our team seems to eat (maybe we could get sponsorship from them next year).  Phil's umpiring that would make many an international umpire shake in their boots (seriously though Phil thanks for all the umpiring you did this season).  Hammers behaviour on and off the field, finally she was banashed to the changing sheds (was it a bump ball though??).  Off the field antics with Jenny Shipley and bushes were a bit of a worry, I won't say anymore but you know who you are DON'T YOU.  Me getting asked home by a certain member of the senior mens team to see his "new dishwasher" (I still haven't been able to live that one down - THANK YOU).  I am very worried by the clothing worn by members of the team it ranged from the traditional whites to English rugby gear, prada hats and dare I say it Australian cricket attire.  Finally I learnt to catch and bowl which I think suprised some people (thanks for putting up with me!!!) I think the reaction was a little over the top though when Hammer bet my record for most catches in the season.  And guys I am sorry I will think before I speak but at least I wasn't the only one in the team with foot in mouth disease this year.  There was countless bee spasms by members of our team or was it a new dance they were practing. Of course there was the endless toy throwing episodes by the team, I think that we were all at fault here lucky I work with children...... (maybe that's where I learn it but that's my excuse I don't know about the rest of you lot). Or was it a no ball.........

Thanks to everyone for playing this year and the support we have had from family and firends.  Look after yourselves over the winter and I will catch you next season
