This is our story

Marcia Alison Chase and William Goodykoontz Holman were both born in Buffalo, NY in 1934, and met in 5th grade, 10 years later.  Bill's father had been transferred to Richmond, VA in 1942, and when he was sent back to the Buffalo area two years later, Bill and Marcia became classmates. This "relationship" continued through 9th grade, after which Marcia's family moved to a neighboring school district, and in 1950, at the end of 10th grade, Bill's family moved to Clinton, Iowa.

Marcia finished high school in Tonawanda, NY, and became an occupational therapist, graduating from what is now Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti. She practiced in Michigan for a number of years, and eventually took a position at the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison. She was married during this time, and had one daughter.

Bill graduated from Clinton, Iowa High School, and entered the USAF. He was married while in the service, and returned to Clinton when his enlistment was completed. During this time his two sons were born. After a short time of selling cars and then appliances, he went to work for the old Singer Sewing Machine Company. Singer transferred him into Wisconsin in 1958. In 1961 he left Singer, and eventually started his own sewing machine business in a small town outside of Madison.

Fate stepped in, when, in 1976, both Marcia

and Bill joined the same small  church, in a town between where they both lived. Marcia figured out that they were old friends, but Bill says that she had the advantage of not dealing with a name change. Marcia says she did, however, have to deal with a hairline change.

Both of them had to deal with some difficult times, and although there was little contact for the next 15 years, they managed to keep in touch with an occasional note or a card. Bill had been divorced for a number of years, when in 1991, he received a note from Marcia that she was also living alone, and they have been soulmates ever since. They were married in 1992, and when Marcia's sister gave them a reception back in western NY, one of the guests was their 5th grade teacher, Mary Jane Orcutt.

As this is being written, they have been married for ten years, and retired since 1996. Bill sold his sewing machine business, and Marcia became an OTR, Retired. Bill still does some volunteer repair work on sewing machines for RSVP and other non-profit groups, and attempts to maintain his sanity on the golf course. Marcia volunteers with the Occupational Therapy Assn, Meals on Wheels, RSVP, and numerous other projects, and also finds time to get in a couple of rounds of golf per week. Both of them enjoy traveling, and especially, touring on their Harley Davidson.

Two very lucky people will tell you that life begins at 58.
