Karen Walker had all the finer things in life. She only wore the best clothes, and really didn't need to go to work at Grace Adler Designs, but felt that it kept her down to earth. Her fabulous lifestyle would have been nothing without her husband, Stan. But, when they filed for divorce, Karen thought she had nothing to worry about. That was until Stan froze all of her assets, which only left her no choice but to actually cash the paychecks she was given. No longer could she throw around money like she used to. She was alone at the office of Grace Adler Designs, which left her nothing to do but think about her situation. After some time had past, she picked up the phone and dialed the number to her mother.

"Hello?" Lois Whitley answered.

"Mama? It's Karen," Karen replied.

"Well, hey, Kiki!" Lois exclaimed, then became skeptical about Karen's call. "What's going on, what's happening, why are you calling?"

"Listen, I need some advice and I need it from you."

"I'm all ears."

Karen hesitated, then said, "Um, what's a good scam that won't get me caught?"

"Kiki, why would you want to know that?"

"Well, it's just that I've fallen on hard times, and I need a quick way to make cash."

"Oh, sweetie."

"Please, Mom?" Karen asked.

"Well, remember some of the things we used to do?"

"You mean how you'd hook up with someone just to run off with their money?"

"Yeah, that. That should at least get you through a couple of weeks. And," Lois paused a second, then continued with a sigh, "there's a guy who I've been working with who's now been ordered to bed rest at the hospital. He's very sick, and there's a possibility he might not make it."

"You're doing that again? Remember the last time you did that, it didn't work out!" Karen said.

"Look, I'm really close to having him putting me in his will. I could use a little help to make this final."

"Mama, I really don't think...""

"Whatever I get, you'll get half of if you help me," Lois cut Karen off.

"Ugh, fine. I'm in. When do you need me?"

"About a week from now. I've got him pretty much handled, but his two daughters are getting suspicious, and I need you to distract them and to talk to him to make sure I get in the will."

"Fine. Call me sooner to when the time comes."

"You won't regret it, Kiki. Talk to you later."

"Bye," Karen said as she hung up the phone.

Closer to when the time came for Karen to help Lois, she was successful in scamming a few men. She came close to getting caught a couple of times, but managed to slip out of those situations. She knew that what she was doing was wrong, and knew she had to stop, but when she made the decision to stop, her phone rang.

"Hello?" Karen answered.

"Kiki, I need you," Lois replied.

"What do I have to do?" Karen asked.

"Look, I have an outfit picked out for you, and all you have to do is act poor and desperate. Trust me, Kiki, this'll all be worth it. There's a lot of cash involved. I'll pick you up."

"Fine. I'll see you soon," Karen replied.

"Be there in a few minutes," Lois hung up the phone.

Soon enough, Lois arrived at Karen's door with the outfit for her to wear in a bag. Karen grabbed the bag out of he mother's hand and said, "Give me five minutes to change." Karen then went into another room to get dressed.

Karen came out in torn jeans and a baggy sweatshirt with a couple of small holes in it. She looked down at she was wearing and said, "Good lord, look at this outfit!"

"Oh, honey, it'll all be worth it," Lois replied. "You ready to go?"

"Not really, but I guess I have no choice."

Karen got into the passenger's seat of a beat up car as Lois took the driver's seat. The car ride was pretty quiet until Karen broke the silence.

"Mama, why do you do this?"

"Well," Lois sighed. "I did it before to support you. I do it now to get by. I'm not rich like you are." She looked over at her daughter as she stopped the car. "Look, I know I'm not the best mom, but I did my best to give you somewhat of a good life, even if it did mean going so low as to scam a few people."

Karen didn't say anything, she just hugged her mother. They both got out of the car and walked into the hospital. They went up to the desk, hand in hand, as Lois asked, "Excuse me, which room is Walt Freeman in please?"

"Mister Freeman is in room 309," the lady at the desk replied.

"Thank you. Come on, Kiki." Lois and Karen went up to room 309. When they entered they saw Walt in bed and one of his daughters sitting by his side. She looked up as the door opened. She saw Lois and Karen walk in. She stood up and glared at the two of them.

"Oh, it's you," she said.

"Alyssa, nice seeing you again," Lois replied as she saw Alyssa walk out of the room. What they didn't know is that Alyssa hurried to a payphone and called her brother, which turned out to be one of the men Karen had scammed. Alyssa dialed her brother's number and waited. Finally, a voice came on the other end. "Hello?"

"Mike, it's me," Alyssa replied.

"Hey. What's going on?" Mike asked.

"Remember that girl you were seeing, then she ran off with your money?"

"Karen? What about her?"

"She's in Daddy's hospital room."

"What? How did that happen?"

"Apparently, she's the daughter of that woman he likes. What should I do?"

"Call the cops. If she did that to me, she could have done that to other guys."

Alyssa sighed. "Okay, I'll tell you how it turns out." She hung up the phone and started to dial the number for the police.

Sometime afterwards, Lois finally got Walt to put her in the will.

"Well," he said. "It looks like you and your daughter really need the money."

Just then, the police came barging in through the door. "Alright, which one of you is Karen Walker?" the cop asked.

"Why?" Karen and Lois said in unison.

"We got a call from someone that she stole cash from a guy early this week." At this point, Karen and Lois were looking at each other. "So come on, which one of you is Karen Walker?"

"I am." The police put Lois in handcuffs and started to take her away.

"Mama, don't!" Karen said.

"Kiki, I should pay for what I did," Lois replied as she winked at her. Karen's eyes began to tear up as Lois was taken away. She then walked out of the hospital room as her cell phone began to ring.

"Hello?" Karen answered.

"Miss Karen, it all came back!" It was Rosario.

"Ro-Ro, what are you talking about?"

"Mister Stan's giving you back everything he took away!"

"Really? That's great! Listen, meet me at the Palace, we'll get a room."

"Ok. Where are you?" Rosario asked.

"Oh, I had to take care of something. But, I'll be there soon. Bye." Karen hung up the phone. Later on, she met Rosario at the Palace and got a room to stay in.

The next day, Karen went down to the prison. She learned that her mother could be released on bail. Karen paid it, and was taken by the warden to where her mother was.

"Alright, you're free to go," the warden said as he released Lois. She came out, saw Karen, and hugged her. They walked out of the prison, into Karen's limo, and started to head to Lois' home.

"Why did you do that?" Lois asked.

"Because you saved me," Karen replied. "You know you can always ask me for some money to get by. You're my mother, I love you."

Lois smiled and said, "I love you too, Kiki."

Karen's limo stopped and Lois opened the door. She hugged Karen, then got out of the limo and started to walk to her front door. Karen watched her enter her home and smiled. She then looked to the front of the limo and said, "Back to the Palace, driver."
