THIS PAGE IS DEDICATED TO MY GRANDPARENTS,
JOHN ALOGAN BIAS, SR. & AMIE MALINDA FRIEND-BIAS
FROM DUGGINSVILLE, OZARK COUNTY, MISSOURI

I spent many a happy hour in this old house. As long as I can remember, my grandparents lived here. It was located near the end of "P" Highway below the Hart Cemetery at Dugginsville, MO. It was only 1/2 mile (if that far) from Bull Shoals Lake. That part of the lake ended just below my grandparent's house.

Granny died in the old iron bed in the living room of this house in 1959. I can close my eyes right now and see the whole layout of the house and where almost everything was in every room.

Granny was laying in that bed in the living room of that old house in this picture just before she died in 1959. I was only 9 years old so I don't remember too much about her except that I loved her. Mom has told me several stories to keep in my memories and gave me a few things that belonged to her that I shall cherish forever.

As I walk into that house in my mind I can see the wood stove in the living room, Grandpa's old chair that he would balance on it's two back legs and sit and relax. Beside him is a desk piled full of papers and pipes and tobacco he raised from his garden.

As I walk farther into the room, I see the door that went to the attic and when I go up those stairs in my mind, I see some old things stored there and remember (for some reason) an old Sears catalog....what a thing to remember....:-)

Past the upstairs door was the kitchen. The wood cookstove was to the right and the big old table with lots of chairs to the left. Straight ahead was the back door.

Walking back into the living room, I turn right and go into the middle bedroom. To the left was the refrigerator. To the right a bed where I usually slept when I spent the night which I did quite often since I lived only a little ways up the hill and I loved staying all night with Grandpa and Granny.

Through the next door was the last bedroom. Straight ahead was another bed and to the right was a glass display case. This is where Grandpa kept the groceries and other things he sold to local people. This is also where I got into the Mercurechrome (sp?) after he told me to leave it alone and where he grabbed me by the arm and spanked me. I think my Aunt Myrt's family was there visiting from Muskogee, OK. I ran home crying like I thought I would die. Dad asked me what was wrong and through my tears I told him, "Grandpa spanked me." Dad got mad and went to Grandpa's and was yelling at him. That's when Grandpa pulled me onto his lap in that old chair balanced on two back legs and said "Grandpa will never whip you again." I'll never forget that there were tears in his eyes when he told me that. It's a memory that will stay with me as long as I live. In fact, it's my earliest memory.

Grandpa and Granny raised all of these children in this old house. That house was filled with a lot of love and laughter.....and a few tears along the way.

The names of these people are: Obard Leonard "Leonard", John Alogan, Jr. "J.R." (my dad),James Elva "Elvie", Ethel Ray "Ray" (Leonard's twin), Ollie Myrtle "Myrt", Mary Lethian "Mildred" (I think Uncle Mose (Don Bias) gave her that nickname and she never did like it)
