01/11/2006 1:09 pm Latest Update. Pool owner faces violations
MICHELE WAYMAN
Charlotte Observer.
The owner of two neighborhood swimming pools in University City is being taken to court. The Mecklenburg County Health Department started criminal charges against Mark Houff of CHM Holdings. CHM, owner of the pool at the Villages of Wexford, is cited on violations of two health department ordinances - mosquito control and rules for public swimming pools. CHM is cited on the same violations for the pool at Faires Farm, said Environmental health supervisor Dennis Salmen. Houff could not be reached for comment. Problems at the Wexford pool started this past summer, when Houff did not open the pool for use. Vandals broke in and threw furniture and refuse into the pool, sprayed graffiti and did other damage. The health department expects Houff to be served with a summons to appear at a Feb. 3 hearing in Mecklenburg County Environmental Court, a district court that deals mostly with local ordinance violations. Houff will be asked to enter a plea and get a court date. Salmen said his department's goal is to get the problems fixed, not collect punitive damages.
