- Nicole Teter made her second Olympic team in the 800 meters at the 2008 Olympic Trials in Eugene by placing 4th in a time of 2:01.30.  Earlier in the year, Nicole had met the Olympic "A" standard, securing the Olympic spot over the 3rd place finisher who had not.

- Daniel Imlach completed his collegiate eligibility by placing 10th at the NCAA Division 1 National Championships in DeMoine, Iowa.  The Big Sky Conference champion had a season best of 17'6.75".

- Nicole Teter won the 2008 USATF Indoor National  title in the 800 and will compete in the World Indoor Championships in Spain.

- In the Track and Field News 2005 yearly rankings, Brooke Meredith's (Cal) score of 5,611 pts. ranked her as the 13th best American heptathlete overall.  Tim Nelson (Wisconsin) had the 20th best 10,000 meter time of 28:45.32.

- Tim Nelson placed 18th overall in the NCAA Division 1 National Cross Country Championships to earn All-American status.  He became the first Northern Section athlete to compete on a D1 National championship team as his Wisconsin Badgers were easy winners over Arkansas.  Tim was the top California athlete in the meet.

- Brooke Meredith closed out her senior year at Cal with PR 5,611 pt. ninth place finish at the USATF National Outdoor Championship in the Heptathlon.  Her marks were:  14.30 (HH), 5'5.25" (HJ), 43'7.25" (SP), 26.09 (200), 18'5.25" (LJ), 143'5" (JT), and 2:17.39 (800).

- Tim Nelson ran to an eighth place finish in the 10,000 meters at the NCAA Division I National Outdoor Championships to earn All-American status.

- Daniel Imlach won the pole vault at the California Community College State Championships with a vault of 15'6.  He has accepted a track scholarship to CSU, Sacramento next year.

- Daniel Imlach set a school, meet, and Northern California record of 16'6 in the pole vault to win the GVC Championships.

- Nicole Teter placed 11th in the Olympic Games 800 meters in Athens, Greece with a time of 1:59.50.  After advancing from the quarterfinals to the semifinals, Nicole missed qualifying for the finals by less than 3 tenths of a second.  Nicole becomes only the second Northern Section native to compete in the Olympic track and field competition.  Leslie Deniz (Gridley) placed second in the 1984 Olympic discus competition.

- Nicole Teter qualified for the Olympic Games by placing 2nd in the 800 meters in a time of 2:00.25.  Jeff Billing placed 15th in the long jump with a jump of 24'9.75 and Brooke Meredith placed 17th in the heptathlon with a score of 5356 pts.

- West Valley will have three former track and field athletes participating in the Olympic Trials in Sacramento.  Competing will be 1991 graduate, Nicole Teter in the 800 meters, and 2000 graduates, Jeff Billing in the long jump and Brooke Meredith in the heptathlon.

- Nicole Teter is back running strong heading into the Olympic Trials.  Her 1:58.83 for 800 meters at the Payton Jordan Invite is the fastest in the world this year.

- Renee Eckley, a red-shirt freshman at Azusa Pacific University, won the NAIA National Outdoor championship in the javelin with a throw of 149'7".  The meet was held in Louisville, KY. Renee is concentrating on the javelin this season while she allows stress fractures in her legs to heal.  She hopes to return to the heptathlon next season.

- Chris Wright had one of the top junior college vaults in the state while competing for Mt. SAC.  His PR is now 15'6".

- Just ten days after her NCAA Indoor third place performance, Brooke Meredith scored 5,144 pts. in the heptathlon.  Her performance is an automatic qualifier for the outdoor nationals and only 300 pts. off the Olympic trials qualifying mark.

- Jeff Billing won the long jump at the Hornet Invitational at Sacramento State University with  a wind-legal jump of 25'5.  He also ran 10.63 in the 100 meters.

- Katie Eckley broke the NCAA Division II outdoor pole vault record at the Murray Relays with a vault of 13'3.  She now owns both the indoor and outdoor records.

- Brooke Meredith scored another PR in placing 3rd at the NCAA Division I Indoor National Championships with a mark of 4,189 pts. in the pentathlon.  Her marks were 60HH (8.76), HJ (5'7.25), LJ (19'4.75), SP (41'9.25), and 800 (2:19.49).  With marks like these, Brooke has an excellent shot at qualifying for the Olympic Trials in the heptathlon.

- Katie Eckley placed second in the NCAA Division II Indoor National Championships with a vault of 12'4.

- Brooke Meredith scored 4088 pts. to win the U. of Washington indoor pentathlon.  Her marks were 60HH (8.80), HJ (5'5.75), SP (41'3.75), LJ (19'4.75), and 800 (2:21.8).  She currently leads the nation for Division I colleges.

- Tim Nelson placed 7th in the Big Ten Conference 5000 with a time of 14:29.  He was the top freshman in the race.

- Nicole Teter placed third at the USATF Indoor Nationals in Boston.  Her time was  2:03.

- Nicole Teter's second indoor meet was a 2:02.16 effort at the Tyson Indoor Invite in Arkansas.

- Jeff Billing is sitting out this season at UC Davis to train for the Olympic Trials long jump.  He has moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma to train with his former Shasta College sprint coach.

- Tim Nelson, a freshman at Wisconsin, ran 14:12.54 for 5000 at the Iowa State Classic. He met the provisional qualifying standard for the NCAA Indoor Nationals.

- Katie Eckley opened her indoor season with a pole vault PR of 13'2.5 the Tyson Indoor meet at Arkansas.  Her mark broke the NCAA Division II national indoor record of 13'1.25.  She is only 3" off the USATF Indoor qualifying standard.

- Brooke Meredith, competing for UC Berkeley, won the Washington State Univ. indoor invitational in the pentathlon with a score of 3,937 pts.  Her marks were 60HH (8.97), HJ (5'3), SP (42'0.75), LJ (19'0.5), and 800 (2:23.20).  Her score qualified her for the NCAA Indoor Nationals.

- Following an injury plagued 2003 campaign, Nicole Teter opened the Olympic year with a second place 2:03 effort at the adidas Boston Indoor meet in January.

- Due to a re-occuring  foot injury, Nicole Teter will not compete in the IAAF World Championships.  She has decided to call it quits for this season to allow the foot to heal in preparation for next summer's Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.

- Three former West Valley athletes, Nicole Teter, Jeff Billing, Renee Eckley, and Tim Nelson who trained with West Valley for two years, competed in the USATF National Championships at Stanford in June.  In the senior division, Nicole Teter qualified for the World Championships in the 800 by placing second behind American Outdoor Record-holder, Jearl Miles-Clark.  Jeff Billing placed 13th overall in the long jump. In the junior division, Tim Nelson placed 5th in the 5000, while Renee Eckley placed 10th in the javelin.

- Jeff Billing qualifies for USATF World Championship Trials at Stanford in the long jump.  At an open competition at Sacramento State on June 8, Jeff jumped 25'10" to exceed the qualifying standard of 25'7.

- Katie Eckley (Abiliene Christian) became the second West Valley graduate to win the NCAA Division II National Championship at Southern Illinois University.  Katie won the pole vault title with a vault of 12'9.75".

- Jeff Billing won the NCAA Division II National Championship long jump title at Southern Illinois University in Evansville, Ill. with a jump of 24'11.75".  

- Jeff Billing broke the UC Davis long jump school record at the Chico Invitational by jumping 25'2.5".  Jeff had three jumps over 25 feet in the competition.  He is currently the national leader in the event for the NCAA Division II.

- Renee Eckley recently qualified for the USATF Jr. National Championships in the javelin, throwing the spear 134'7.

- Katie Eckley placed second overall in the women's pole vault at the Texas Relays, recently for Abilene Christian University.  Her vault of 12'7.5" ranks first nationally for NCAA Division II.  The Texas Relays is one of the premier meets in the country.

- West Valley won the varsity boys' and girls' team titles at the rain-soaked John Frank Invitational on Saturday, April 12.  Lindsay Ryan and Shaneen Garth won three events each to lead the girls while Brian Ford placed in the 800, 1600, 3200, and 4 x 400 relay for the boys.

- Tim Nelson (Liberty Christian H.S.) became the first Northern Section athlete to break 9 minutes in the 3200 when he ran 8:58.89 at the prestigious Arcadia Invitational April 12.

- Teter did not attend the World Indoor Championships due to a flareup of her reoccuring plantar fascitis injury.  She is currently doing rehab work and cross training in an attempt to resume competition later this summer.

- Teter ranks 3rd in the World, 1st in USA in 800 for 2002 following a 1:57.97 PR in Europe.  She also ran well enough in the 1500 (4:04.19) prior to a stress fracture in her foot to rank 3rd in USA.
