Without a doubt I have to nominate our Senior Center Mike Strickland as the Player of the Month for January.  He is an absolute Stud for us! Often it is said that "great players play great in big
games". Well he has not only the stats (7 goals and has 2 assists in our 3 games this month) but the timeliness to back it up as we have played a tough schedule this month (Osbourn Park, Lake Braddock, Forest Park)!

On January 10th against Osbourn Park he had 2 of our three goals in our 3-2 victory over them.  He killed off 2 penalties that game and his goals were our first and third (game winner) of the game, the toughest goals to get.

On January 18th against Lake Braddock, He once again scored the first goal of the game! He also scored two other goals for a Hat Trick and added two assists in our 7-4 victory against our rival Lake
Braddock. He also killed off our two penalties that night!

Then there was tonight against Forest Park.  Even without Marc Dudzinski in net for us, he led the way with our first two goals of the game (the first of which was a beautiful goal in which he took the defenseman wide and just walked around him) in our eventual 6-1 victory over Forest Park. He helped kill off our three penalties, including a 5-3 powerplay for Forest Park. Also, not only does he kill off penalties but he is a threat on the powerplay and a big reason why we have scored on our last FIVE powerplays!

While I realize that one may be hesitant in giving a PLAYER OF THE MONTH AWARD to the same team back-to-back months, HE IS CLEARLY THE MOST DESERVING! Nobody played the tough opponents we played and did as well. Mike is a big reason why we are still undefeated at a perfect 7-0 record.  Mike has served on the Penalty Kill team for us which has been a perfect 100% this month including tonight's 5-3 powerplay for Forest Park.

Because I have to vote for another team's player I will vote for Chris Schnappinger from Lake Braddock.  However, it would be nothing short of a sham if he received the award over Strickland. Schnappinger's 3 goals against us showed that he was a good player.  But we were already up 6-1 and playing our fifth line all the time when Schnappinger scored his other two garbage goals near the end of the game to complete his hat-trick. In that same game, Strickland scored three goals, and had 2 assists before Schappinger scored his second and third goals against weaker players.
I apologize if you are offended by the arrogance and boasting of this letter, but there is simply no way anyone can convince me nor anyone else that has seen him play, that there has been a player with a bigger impact on his team than Mike Strickland was for us during the month of January!  Due to his timely scoring and excellent defensive Center type playing we have only trailed one time this month, and that was our first game when Osbourn Park (7-1) scored the first goal and Mike Strickland answered almost a minute later.  It is clear that Mike Strickland is a great player who plays great in big games and clearly deserves this award!

His Stats for January
3 Games
7 goals
2 assists
on our Penalty Kill that is 100%
On our Power play that is 6 for it's last 6 (in league games)
Led the team to continue our perfect 7-0 record.
Mike is a positive role model in the locker room with his positive
comments all the time and sense of humor to remind the guys that while it is competitive, hockey is still only a game
