Shane woke up to a loud ringing sound. Confused, he reached to put off the alarm clock, but then realised it was the phone that was ringing. "Hello?" His broken voice sounded very hoarse. "Shane? Is that you?" "Esther, what are you doing calling me so early in the morning?" One look at the clock on the wall told him it was actually in the middle of the night.

"Sorry Shane, I didn't mean to wake you, but I think you'd better come over as soon as you can." Esther sounded as if she was crying. "NOW? In this hour of night?" There was no answer. Shane decided it would be the best thing to do. He was wide-awake now anyway... "Coming over okay?" He got dressed and woke Nick up. "Nickey honey, I gotta go. Essie has just called to ask if I could come over." "Now? Why?" "Don't know really, she didn't say." He kissed her goodbye and drove over to his friend’s house.
