love never walks alone

chapter sixteen

"I’ll ring you when I get there then" said Bryan, as he reluctantly pulled away from me. "Make sure you do," I said. Although it was good that we were going to be apart for some time, I knew it was going to be hard. We were standing there, terminal 4 Gatwick airport waiting for the call to come. There weren’t any fans about as we were in the passenger lounge. I managed to get in with my press card, I stood there, still worried as ever, could this be the last time that Bryan and I were going to be together as a couple, the days apart would determine whether our relationship would stand it all.

"It’s me" said Bryan as he picked up his hand luggage, "I better get going," he said as he looked up at the sign, "It’s that way," he looked back and moved towards me, "See you soon hunny. I’ll ring when I get there" I was to upset to speak, so just nodded, "hey, don’t cry on me now. I’ll be back next week. I promise." He said, but he’d done that before. It was only time that would tell now.

As I walked with him through the crowds of people I made sure that he had everything he needed, "Passport?" I asked, "Yep" he replied, "Money?" "Yep", "Boarding pass" "Yep" "Ticket?" "Yep" "Right then you all set?" "Yep" he replied, we approached gate 9. People were already beginning to board the plane, "Right, you better hurry then" I said, he looked at me, just one minute he said, "Come here, I’m going to miss you" he pulled me closer and kissed me, we continued to kiss for a while before I pulled back as I heard the tannoy last call for his flight. "You have a safe journey, and miss me lots" I smiled, "You too" he answered. And he moved on… I watched him go through the tunnel onto the plane. He looked back at me one last time, and I synched "Love you" the last thing I saw of him was his back, as he walked off, possibly out of my life for good…

later on, near home…

I found myself walking slowly up the stairs; I almost couldn’t face going back to the flat to see Keely and Shane there. But I knew that I couldn’t put it out of my mind, it was real and I had to see it. I got to the door and unwillingly opened it, only to see Keely and Shane on the sofa, sharing a passionate kiss, something that I really didn’t need to see at the time. Keely got up, "sorry Rav," she said, I looked at her and smiled, "Why are you sorry? you’ve no need to be" I said, trying to look completely fine with it all, "I just needed to get something, then I’ll be out of your way" I wanted to leave the flat as soon as I could, the atmosphere for me, was tense, for one Keely and me were not yet talking, just the odd word was said, nothing major – in-fact we hadn’t even said hello to each other. "Don’t go…" she said, "No, I have some things I have to do, so I’m going to need to. I won’t be home for dinner". She looked at me, she knew exactly where I was heading, and it was nothing to do with work either. "Hang on" said Shane, "Before you go, these came earlier for you," he said picking up a dozen lilies, there’s a card attached, and a letter too. Keely rushed on over, "Come on then, open it" she was so excited, I knew by the handwriting on the letter who it was from, so I put that into my bag and opened the card.

"Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails."
Bryan…

"Awwwwwww, isn’t that gorgeous" she cried out, I looked up and smiled, my eyes started to fill, "it’s beautiful" I said. Keely moved over to Shane and started having a go, at why he never wrote her poetry… with that I called over and said goodbye, "If Bryan calls, tell him to call me on the mobile" and I left.
