flying without wings

chapter thirty six

'Hello Emily.' I still couldn't answer back. I put my hand over my mouth and still couldn't move. I couldn't bear to look in his eyes because I could see a lot of pain inside it. Sprinkle of tears came from no where. 'Mark..' I finally whispered.

He walked toward me as if he was in a big hurry and when he was right up my face, well, my tummy, he looked straight to me. I looked away cos I knew I had hurt him so bad and I didn't deserve him back. He went closer and closer to me until his lips touched mine again for the first time since five and a half months ago. It felt like an angel had touched my lips and made me wonder why I didn't go totally crazy when he wasn't on my side. My emotions were all mixed up inside. In between kisses I mumbled 'I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. I love you Mark. I still love you.'

As if it knew what was happening, the babies kicked my tummy and because Mark was so close to me, he could feel it too. 'My God! The baby just kicked!'

I found the lost pieces of my heart when I saw Mark smiled with sparks in his blue eyes. I just nodded and smiled back at him, finally able to look him in the eye. Like I always did, I drowned on them.

'It's the babies Mark.' Mark looked at me in a disbelief but overjoyed face. 'WHA'? You mean..' I nodded at him again. 'Oh my God! You mean, you mean..' Mark kissed me again, this time it was nearly like when I broke the news to him that I was pregnant. Nearly, really close.

The tears that I tried to hold back finally came down on my cheek. Mark kissed it and said, 'Please don't cry.' I replied him by shaking my head and laughing and crying at the same time. He hugged me and whispered right in my ear, 'I love you.' I cried again.

'Mark! Why on earth are you here?' Bry could bet anyone on earth that Emily forgot all about him. He didn't even know why did Mark come back again. How did Mark know where Emily lived now.

Mark grinned at Bry and put his arms around Emily. This man was definitely crazy, Bry thought. 'Why? Can't I be with my girlfriend?' Mark grinned cheekily at Bry again and started blushing. Emily kissed his cheek so passionately and Bry was so embarrassed that he was there. He could see Emily just cried and the only difference was this time she was crying because she was very happy.

'I think I better get going.' Bry was really embarrassed. The newly-back-together couple grinned at him. Luckily he hadn't made himself too comfy in Emily's apartment. When he was walking passed Mark and Emily, Mark whispered to his ear, 'Thanx loads mate! I owe you one.'

Bry couldn't help himself answering back to Mark this time. 'Now don't be too naughty to our Em or else...' Bry put his hand on his throat and pretended to cut it. They all laughed.

two weeks before

Mark was walking toward the lads when he heard Georgina asked Nicky, 'So Nix, when's Emily getting out of the centre? I'm picking her up.' Before Nicky had the chance to answer G's question, Bry poked his elbow to Nicky's ribs and gave G a *look*. Bry realised Mark was there.

'What did you say G?' Mark asked, surprising Georgina. Georgina seemed nervous and full of guilt. 'Ummm, nothing! I'll see you all later lads!' Then she gave Nicky a kiss. If a look could kill, G would be 'up there' with the angels cos Bry was still giving her *the* look. And off she went.

'Lads, come on. What's going on here?' Nicky didn't have the heart not to tell Mark cos he knew Mark still loved Emily cos he basically pushed every girl who fancied him away and constantly comparing them to Emily's bubbly personality. And of course, one night Nicky heard Mark talking in his sleep, saying he still loved Emily, as much as he did when he met Emily for the first time, or even more.

'Come on Mark, I'll buy you a cup of coffee.' Mark was still looking like one big question mark (hmm, Mark and question mark. Geddit?) when Nicky pushed him to the car. When they got to the café, Nicky went straight to the topic. He told Mark what was going on.

'How could you lads hide these away from me?' 'And tell me, how could we even mention the name Emily without getting your mood swings? Even though when Ro and Louis abolished our five years no babies and no marriage you were delighted but we aren't stupid enough not to recognise your pain Mark.' Mark knew Nicky was right. And he knew what he had to do then.
