We're Married in Italy

From The International Ace of Base Fanclub's Fanzine #18

Ace of Base - that means a quartet of Aces and, despite my limited knowledge of maths, I can say that a quartet conatins four cards. Right! However, with the release of their 'Best of' album, Ace of Base visited us... as a duo! So let's find out what happened!

Ace of Base has just released a 'Best of' album, does this mean the end of the group?
   Ulf:
No. It is the end of a chapter. In the past, Ace of Base has done dance music but so much has happened to us during the 1990's that we now want to do as we like. Right now, we are working on a different sound that is very difficult to describe - you have to hear it to know what I mean.
Jenny: We won't change our music completely or put a bigger emphasis on the lyrics but we will work with a sound that is a little harder. We don't want to be a group that is played on the radio anymore. Instead, we want to be seen as artists who also perform on the stage. Can you see the difference this will make?
Yes, but I don't understand how you can become stage artists when the four of you are no longer together.
   Jenny:
Who said we had split up? In reality, the four of us have decided that Ulf and I will do the promoting over the next few months.
   Why?
   Ulf:
The reason is simple - Linn hates flying and Jonas is about to become a father so they both need more time for their private lives. However, Jenny and I have no commitments at this moment - we are free as birds!
But don't you need time to yourself too?
   Jenny:
Do you mean the two of us together? (laughs) In Italy, I read somewhere that Ulf and I are married and have children!
Ulf: Jenny and I don't want a break. Jonas needs time because of the baby but I have just recently broken up with my girlfriend so I need to keep myself busy.
Jenny: At the moment I am as free as a bird so I can do what I want to do. As for the baby - well, we'll see about that later!
So, how does that influence the group?
   Ulf:
We are working more in the studio - as a group, but if we are appearing somewhere in a live performance we meet up with eachother and Linn takes the train.
So what happens when you go to the United States - does Linn travel by boat?
   Jenny:
That's a good question! One of the main reasons why Linn took a step back from the last album was to avoid all the traveling. I am doing most of the lead vocals now.
Does it bother you to think that your fans may start to worry that you are no longer together when they rarely see you together as a group?
   Ulf:
We are not the only group to do that. Look at Metallica - there are five members in the group but you rarely see more than two of them in an interview.
And when will we have the chance to see all of you together again?
   Jenny:
Without any doubts, next summer when our new album will be released. In between time, we will do some television shows and maybe some live performances. See you soon!
