Authorized Baby Signs Workshops

Have you ever wondered what your Baby was thinking?  Or Why he is crying?

Baby Signs was discovered by Child Development experts, Dr. Linda Acredolo and Dr. Susan Goodwyn.  Their two decades of research, funded by the National Institutes of Health, have proven that Baby Signs has extraordinary benefits for your baby that include reducing trantrums, boosting your baby's emotional and psychological development, increasing your child's IQ and helping your baby learn to talk sooner!  Please visit the official website of Baby Signs for more benefits for your child.

Why Sign with your baby?
*
your 8 month old could ask for milk*
*your 10 month old could tell you he saw a dog*
*your 12 month old could ask you to read a book*
*your 18 month old could tell you she has a tummy ache*
*you could manage your child's behavior in public without using your voice*

How I Became a Baby Signs Consultant:

I have worked in Early Intervention for  9 years.  During those years, I had taught some basic sign language to hearing impaired children.   I read an article by Dr. Acredolo and Dr. Goodwyn several years ago about using Sign Language  with hearing children.  I began trying to teach the few signs from the article and some simplified American Sign Language to my 9 month old son.  He learned several signs quickly but began talking so early that I discontinued signing with him at about 12 months.  I came across the Baby Signs website by accident in 2002  while looking for the article that I had read so long ago.  I wanted to share the information with the parents of a two year old child with Down Syndrome that I thought would benefit from learning  signs to decrease his frustration. His ability to learn the signs so quickly amazed me!  It truly is a bridge to communication!

I personally have used Baby Signs with my daughter, Ella, who is now two years old.  I bought the Baby Signs book and began signing with her at about 10 months and she was able to sign about 30 words and  by 15 months.  The most wonderful thing about Baby Signs for me is that Ella could initiate conversation about things she saw and found interesting.  That just doesn't happen with a typical 12-18 month old.  They generally point and babble and  parents have to guess at what she is wanting to say!

Baby Signs are so easy for a young child to imitate.  Their little fingers are just not ready for the complex signs of American Sign Language or even the complex tongue movements necessary for speech.   I searched for a workshop in West Tennessee that I could attend but the closest was in middle Tennessee.  I decided I wanted to share the story of Baby Signs and conduct my own workshops so other parents can communicate early with their little ones too!!
