Hotels:
We have set aside
many hotel rooms
(some deluxe, some less expensive,
so do inquire about different options) at
The Meadowmere
(a lovely hotel with swimming pools, hot tubs, a gym,
and even a movie theater!) Rooms at the Meadowmere are reserved until May 21, so make your reservations early! Mention that you are with the Shein-Stein party.
We also recommend
The Anchorage by the Sea, a beautiful (fairly expensive) hotel on the Marginal Way
The Country View, a less expensive but still lovely hotel three miles from The Meadowmere and Clay Hill Farms
Seacastles, also on the Marginal Way, has suites with kitchens, if you like to spread out and cook for yourself.

Recommendations for enjoying Ogunquit and surrounding areas:
Ogunquit
- Walk the Marginal Way – a beautiful path by the ocean with benches placed periodically to enjoy the breathtaking views.
- Enjoy Ogunquit Beach – you can take the trolley or drive there.
- Stroll around Perkin’s Cove which is at one end of the Marginal Way. There are little shops, galleries and restaurants.
- Take a boat trip from Perkin’s Cove – we’ve taken the Lobster trip, it’s short and interesting.
- There’s a craft fair on the Ogunquit Theater grounds over the weekend. (On Rt. 1, near the Meadowmere just south of Ogunquit Center.
- Shop in Ogunquit center.
- Visit the antiques and collectable stores in the area.
- There’s a movie theater in Ogunquit Center and one in the Meadowmere resort.
Restaurants in Ogunquit:
- Barnacle Billy’s – very informal and fun Lobster Restaurant in Perkin’s Cove.
- Barnacle Billy’s 2 – next to no. 1 – has a larger variety of foods, a more traditional sit down and order restaurant.
- Café Amore for breakfast – on Shore Rd. We haven’t actually been to this new location but used to enjoy the atmosphere and food – jazz music, good food.
- The Egg and I – on Rt. 1, Rt. 1 north of Ogunquit Center, good for breakfast or lunch.
- Jonathan’s, 2 Bourne Lane, very near the Meadowmere, a good full service restaurant.
Other restaurants near by:
- Billy’s Chowder House, Mile Rd., Wells. Good for lunch. Overlooking salt marshes and Wells Harbor. Good chowder and fresh seafood.
- Jake’s Seafood, Moody – north from Ogunquit on Rt. 1, just before Wells (Corner of Rt. 1 and Bourne Ave. Very informal and inexpensive breakfast and lunch place.
FURTHER AFIELD:
- KENNEBUNKPORT – about a half hour north of Ogunquit on R. 1 or 15 minutes on Rt. 95. It has a pretty town center with various shops to wander around, restaurants, etc.
You can drive out on Ocean Ave, where there are spectacular views and you can see Bush Sr’s summer home.
As you start the drive from Kennebunkport center on Ocean Ave. there are some benches on your right near a small beach. (We used to picnic there though there are not any picnic tables). But it’s a gorgeous spot.
At the end of Ocean Ave you can continue on to Cape Porpoise. There is a pier you can walk out onto with a lobster shed and gorgeous sunset views.
If you drive from there East on Rt. 9 you come to Goose Rocks beach, one of the most beautiful beaches in the area.
Restaurants in Kennebunkport which we recommend:
- Noonan’s – in Cape Porpoise, a real Lobster hut, loads of atmosphere and good food – you may have to wait in line.
- The Boatyard – on Christiansen Lane near the intersection of Rt. 35 and Rt. 9. A classy restaurant, menu with an excellent variety, lovely views of the river, reasonable prices.
- Outlet Shopping: Kittery outlets on Rt. 1 south of Ogunquit
Freeport, loads of outlets including LL Bean (approximately 50 miles)
Activities with kids:
- Mini Golf – there’s a big one north of Ogunquit on Rt. 1 which looks great.
- Trolley Car Museum, Kennebunkport – interesting, you ride on the trolley cars, learn the history, they used to have a lunch place on a trolley car.
- York Wild Animal Kingdom – (about 8 miles south of Ogunquit) - we think it’s an amusement park and zoo (363-4911).
- Aquaboggan, Saco – a water park (282-3112) ( Saco is about 20 miles away – we’ve never been there).
- Funtown/Splashtown U.S.A., Saco (284-4511)
- Maine Aquarium, Saco (284-4511)
See you in Maine!
