City to surf 14KM marathon.
Sunday 12th, August, 2001. (My first) |
The day was filled with excitment, energy and lots of noise. With 60,000 people and the fine weather it definitely is something to remember. Race started 10am at Hyde park and the finish line at Bondi Beach. The toughest and most difficult section gotta be the uphill around 5KM - 8KM mark. Also known as the Heartbreak Hill which rises a metre for every 8.56meters, I managed through without stopping. Along the journey cheering crowds young and old gave great motivation and energy and the musical bands also set a great atomosphere for everyone. It was an exhilarating and challenging experience for me and i would recommend it to anyone.
My time was better than expected ... 1 hour and 33 minutes take away the staggered start time which is about 20 minutes for me. So 73 minutes from start to finish. Yippeee... :)
