WEB-SITE-BUILDING 101 on Geocities-PageBuilder
This exercise will teach you the basics of building a web site, using only POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT. If there are any sources of confusion in the lessons please email <websitebuilding101@yahoo.ca> and these pedagogical errors will be cheerfully corrected. When it comes to teaching machine methodologies like this, "THE STUDENT IS ALWAYS RIGHT". Email any problems to <websitebuilding101@yahoo.ca>. BTW this project has nothing to do with the Yahoo-Geocities administration. It is an autonomous Internet-Citizen initiative. Scroll down to the bottom if you are interested in the teaching-machine pedagogical issue of using positive vs. negative reinforcement.

First you need a yahoo-geocities account if you do not have one already. To obtain an account, go to:
<http://www.yahoo.com>.
After doing so, click on the Email button at the top of the screen and follow the instructions to obtain a yahoo account. Once you have your yahoo login ID and password, you will use them again for web page building on geocities. Just go to <http://www.oocities.org>

There you will see a sign which reads Yahoo! PageBuilder. Click on it and the next screen will allow you to     "launch" or start (load) the PageBuilder software. First, have a look at the "PageBuilder Tutorial" on the same page. Those who have interests in educational psychology will want to compare and contrast their experiences with the Pagebuilder Tutorial vs. the present method.

The present method is to set out some
goals of web page building as one would set out goals in a maze and then to take the path which most directly leads to the goals. The signs on each path must be clear so that wrong turns will be avoided. If you take wrong turns that is the fault of the teaching machine. "THE STUDENT IS ALWAYS RIGHT". So let us know right away!

This tutorial is far from exhaustive. It will only give you a start on web site building, though you will be able to construct a good, basic web site from it.

A MAIN MENU will be presented below. You may wish to print out this menu and its links and keep it on hand as you work on your web site. Conceivably it could be incorporated into the PageBuilder menu system but that is not available presently available.

GOALS-MAIN MENU

Here are some goals or objectives you may want to achieve for basic web site construction. Click on the highlighted URL below each goal to learn the path and signs to that goal:

(1) Typing text in various areas of the web site screen displays and moving those text display areas around on the screen display;

(2) Changing the fonts (size and shape of letters and other typed characters);

(3)  Colour: you may want to colour the entire web page or just the background in the text box or just selected text characters, phrases, lines etc;

(4) Pictorial displays: geocities has a pre-selected set of pictures which you can choose from to enhance your web site;

(5) Scanned displays: if you have a scanner, you may wish to scan in your own pictures, graphics etc. and put them on the web site;

(6) Links, so that anyone visiting the web site can click on a URL as for the links above to yahoo and geocities;

(7) Counter, to give you a record of the number of "visits" to your web site or "hits".

If anyone knows a procedure to add another feature, please email us as above. Otherwise, the seven goals above will yield a good, basic web page and web site as the pages are linked. Enjoy!

PEDAGOGY OF THE SEVEN SHINING PATHS

(Sounds like a Falun Gong slogan doesn't it?)

Those who only want to start creating a basic web site can follow the seven paths above to get through this maze. Those interested in the educational psychology of the
TWO TEACHING MACHINE METHODS, one based in negative reinforcement and the other based in positive reinforcement should also study the PageBuilder tutorial which begins at <http://geocities.yahoo.com/v/p/t/a.html>

At the bottom of the page for Lesson 7/Counter above, there is a summarization of teaching machine principles used in the preparation of these seven lessons. Also on: <http://www.websitebuilding101/addendum>
