To Michelle, after bedtime

To Michelle, after bedtime

Sleep-fogged, I lie upon the bed we share,
Awaiting your return.
Eyes thick-lidded, limbs sluggish, mind
Creeping viscously toward oblivion,
And I smile.
I smile drowsily, yawning,
More than tired--
But deeply, quietly, strongly happy
Because this *is* the bed we share,
And in a moment you will join me in it.

Thank you, my love, for sleeping and dreaming beside me, for the press of your hip in the night, for the peaceful wonder of your love. Thank you for all that you are to me.
