Re-tensioning Selvedges and/or Loose Warp

So you've added weights to those loose selvedges or other warp threads. Now they are hanging over the back beam so far that you are afraid they'll hit the floor before you get all the warp woven off. Here's a way I found to deal with the problem and it'll work with other weaving too, not just rugs.

Refer to picture 1:

When you come to the end of the rug, weave a header as you normally would. Apply fray check or similar glue. Make sure the selvedges or areas that have loose warp threads are saturated. Let dry.

Refer to picture 2:

Now move the weights that you have hanging over the back beam. Attach them above the header you just wove to the same loose warps they were used on before. Now let the weights hang over the front or breast beam.

Refer to picture 3:

If you are using hemed edges on your rugs, weave your next header. Apply more fray check or glue to the same areas. If you are leaving space for fringe, weave in your spacing material, or however you handle it. When you start weaving the next rug, add some frey check or glue where appropriate.  Let Dry.

After the glued areas have passed over the front beam they will be pretty stable.

Don't forget to remove the weights before they start winding onto the cloth beam. ;^)
