Tuesdays with Morrie Essay

Tuesdays with Morrie is a touching novel by Mitch Albom. It is about a professor named Morrie, who has amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Lou Gehrig’s disease. There is no known cure for it. It affects the bones and you lose control over your body little by little. He was a great professor until the doctors discovered he had this disease. He had a student, Mitch, who would come to his house every Tuesday and they would talk about the meaning of life. Mitch would tape record him talking for when he passes he would show the world what a wise man he really was. A quote that Morrie said was “most of us all walk around as if we’re sleep walking. We really don’t experience the world fully, because we’re half asleep, doing things we automatically think we have to do” (83).
Morrie lived his life to the fullest. He talked about every meaning of life to Mitch every Tuesday, when Mitch came over. When he said “most us all walk around as if we’re sleep walking...” He is trying to say we do not look at the life like we live on it. We take it for grant. We do not see what is really out there. Also when he said …. We really don’t experience the world fully, because we’re half asleep, doing things we automatically think we have to do”. When we walk and talk we do not think about what we are doing. We just have to do it. I believe that is true. We are all going to die sooner or later, but no one appreciates what we have. I believe that when someone does something they do it because they have too. Morrie was trying to tell the world something before he dies. I think he did. Life is hard but you have to live on with it and go thru day by day no matter what.
“Most of us all walk around as if we’re sleep walking. We really don’t experience the world fully, because we’re half asleep, doing things we automatically think we have to do” (83).  This is one of the best and honest quotes that Morrie said in the book Tuesdays with Morrie. It was a great book to read. I personally enjoyed the book and also the movie. I recommend it to everyone who wants to learn more about life and a life story about a guy who has a rare disease. This book makes a person think more then they do about life and what goes on in the world.
