Week 2 (January 16-20)
Monday: MLK, Jr. Holiday. No classes.
Thursday: I want you to bring in an example of Egyptian poetry or writing from the Internet. Just go to a search engine and type in “Egyptian poetry” or “Egyptian writing.” Various haiku by Basho, Buson, and Issa (handout).

Week 3 (January 23-27)
Monday: Watch Greece: A Moment of Excellence (video).
Thursday: Ancient Greece and the Formation of the Western Mind 7-14, The Odyssey by Homer 21-24, and The Iliad by Homer 25-29.

Week 4 (January 30-February 3)
Monday: Watch Troy (video).
Thursday: Finish Troy (video).

Week 5 (February 6-10)
Monday: The Allegory of the Cave by Plato (handout).

Week 6 (February 13-17)
Monday: The Roman Empire 41-45. We will read and discuss some writing from Ovid in class.
