The cameo was lovely. She put it on a chain that hung from her neck. She was delighted to have it. Her grandmather had worn it for years. Now, since Grandma had left it to her in the will, she could wear it proudly.

On the first day she wore it, she fell and twisted her ankle. On the second day she wore it, she cut her hand badly while slicing onions and had to be taken to the clinic for stitches. While there, the nurse accidently gave her an antibiodic shot that caused an allergic reaction, and she was rushed to emergency where she was kept overnight for observation.

She began to think the cameo might be bad luck and gave it to a young nurse who was admiring it. When she left the hospital and was headed home in a taxi, the taxi collided with another vehicle and she was taken back to the hospital. She was sorry then that she had given away her grandmother's cameo. It obviously wasn't to blame for her mishaps. It was just coincidence that all these things happened after receiving it.

When the young nurse came to her room, she asked her if she could have her cameo back. "But you already have it back," the young nurse said. "My supervisor told us it was against the rules to keep gifts that patients gave us. I put it in your purse just before you left for home."
