I look at my eyes...the shape, the color, the intensity...and think of what they have seen.

My eyes are round shaped and dark brown. They are filled with compassion, hope, trust and love. I just looked in the mirror and that's what I saw.

These eyes have seen a lot of beautiful things—mountains, flowers, skyscrapers, lakes, oceans, foreign lands. Everywhere I look today, I see beauty—children playing, animals snoozing in the sun, people helping others less fortunate.

I've seen the miracle of birth. I've watched my children grow into responsible adults.

I've witnessed the power of healing—physical healing when all hope seemed lost, and emotional healing when a soul is down in the depths of despair.

I have seen pain and sorrow with these eyes—cruelty, greed, unfaithfulness, emotional and physical abuse. I have seen suffering and hopelessness.

I've seen death come and take away my loved one. I saw the peaceful look on his face as he was taken to a new life and a new beginning somewhere out of my reach.

But, best of all, I've seen love. The saying is true, "It is better to have loved and lost than not to have loved at all." Once you have seen love, you have seen the greatest miracle of all.
