My skin is light and has rusty spots. My skin is dark and beautiful. My eyes are blue. My eyes are green. My eyes are brown. My eyes are slanted. My eyes are round. I have red hair, brown hair, blond hair , white hair, black hair. I am thin and slinky. I am round and obese. I am wealthy in money. I am wealthy only in love. I dig ditches. I sit at a desk. I am an executive. I am a laborer. I shout my views to all. I am quiet and reserved.

  I am an American.

I grumble about my government without fear of being killed or thrown in jail. I participate in politics. I don't like politics and avoid participating . I vote one way. I vote another.

  I am an American.

I go to the church of my choice. I don't go any church but I believe. I don't go to church because I don't believe. I am an American. I choose to serve my country and fight in the wars my government tells me I must. I don't fight in any war. It is against my beliefs. I leave my family alone while I go off to foriegn lands at the descretion of higher powers. I stay home with my family and do my own thing.

  I am an American.

I own a small store. I work for a big corporation. I shop at Walmart. I shop at Macy's. I am an American. I own my own home. I rent a small apartment.

  I am an American.

Another birthday has arrived for America. We celebrate while others are fighting a desperate war against terrorism. We are many people with many beliefs and life styles. But what we have in common is wonderful. We can live, play, work, fight wars or not. We can open up our views to others without the worry that we will end up in a mass grave as some of the people in other worlds are suffering. I feel fortunate to be an American and live in a country where we can do our own thing. My heart goes out to those families who don't know if their military loved one will return whole and well or if at all. My heart feels for those families who live in a war strife land where they are just finding out that their loved ones will never come home as they have been found in a grave where thousands are burried. It doesn't matter that no weopons of mass distruction have been found. It doesn't matter that no chemicals have been found. What is sad, is that the world has let those people suffer and lose loved ones, without lifting a finger to help them out of their plight. Maybe they aren't our loved ones. But they are someone's family. And they are people, just like you and me. So while we are celebrating our freedoms, it would be nice to think about those suffering people.

Happy Birthday America.
