Self-confidence

Our self-concept is largely shaped by those around us. We develop a picture of ourselves as a reflection of how others treat us. But that doesn’t mean we are forever doomed to a poor self-image. It is your thinking (your perception and evaluation) that determines how you feel, not other’s behavior itself. What's truly important is not the events in our lives, but the meaning we attach to them.

Also, many debilitative emotions are caused by irrational thinking (see replacing old beliefs). You have to pay attention to your self-image and not be reluctant to change an outdated model. Beware of self- fulfilling prophecies.

It’s important to have confidence in your ability of learn and adapt. Learning is the process of creating a relationship between something we already know and something new. We do this using metaphors. The metaphor you choose shapes your way of thinking. It’s vital that you chose empowering metaphors, which will give you confidence in yourself and your abilities. How would you describe life? As a battle? Dance? Game?
