Introduction
My desires do not lay in the region of massive, room consuming train layouts. I'm more of a spontaneous person, and I'm just as likely to spend years attached to one thing, as to throw it out scare hours later. This lends itself badly to a long-term large modelling project, but means that I'm constantly on the lookout for small mini-projects to get going. Having been inspired by the very incredible SeMG tramlink modules, I decided to make the most of my beaten up N Gauge kato EMU and try and emulate the quirky nature of the previously mentioned layout.

Prototype
Built in the years leading up to 2000, Croydon's tramlink was put in place to ease congestion of the town centre and provide an eco-friendly transport option to a variety of destinations in the south of london, from Elmer's End to Wimbledon.

It lends itself well to modelling an entire tram takes up approximately 9" in N Gauge, stations approximately 12" and curves of 11" radius are completely prototypical. It should probably be considered 'Light Rail' in all but name - almost 3/4 of the Tramlink system is on converted mainline track.

The Model
Using the plans available from Bombadier (Manufacturer) I have made a quick and dirty paper mockup of the CR4000 as seen below:

It's a little wonky because there isn't any supporting structure, and it's scaled to 1:120 in view of the larger carriage underframe. I do not want to keep this scale, but it was a whole deal simpler doing this, than to cut up the carriage parts before I was certain.

Here are a few plans to give you an idea of what the modules could look like:
