While Kill Bill may be Quentin Tarantino's fourth film, it doesn't show. This man can not only write a witty script but he can also direct like nobody else. Kill Bill had an absurd amount of hype behind it and I saw it because of this hype.

Black Mamba was a member of an assassin group lead by a man named Bill. On her wedding day she is shot and left for dead by Bill, seconds after revealing to him that her unborn baby is his. Four years later she awakes from a coma. She's wants one thing, revenge. The story is as simple as that. This woman wants revenge for what Bill did to her. The film ends with a surprise that sets up the second volume and I'm really excited to see what Tarantino has planned.

Uma Thurman stars as Black Mamba and she plays the role perfectly. Giving off the right emotions at the right time. She may be killing people left and right but she also has compassion, which is shown later in the movie around the big final fight. In fact, Uma isn't the only great actor in Kill Bill, the top notch cast also includes Lucy Liu, Daryl Hannah, Vivica A. Fox, and Sonny Chiba. All of which give great performance, especially Lucy Liu who gives an amazing performance in every one of her scenes.

The script is one of the best ones I've seen this year. It's full of smart and witty dialog, something that is expected from Quentin Tarantino. The directing is also amazing. The film opens in black and white and has the quality of a snuff film. Right after that we are greeted with a bright and colorful look at a suburb in Pasadena. During the final battle of the movie, blood is spurting about the screen and it suddenly goes black and white, making it less about the crazy amount of blood and more about the fighting style used by Black Mamba. During that same battle, it goes back to color just to have the lights turned out and a fight happens in front of a large blue screen, this adds so much more to this final battle because a fight that long might have gotten boring after a while, the changes in color and situation make it seem like a whole new fight. The final scene in the movie gives you a taste of what Volume 2 will be about and Tarantino cut the film at just the right time, unlike what the Wachowski Brothers did for Matrix: Reloaded.

Kill Bill is only the second Tarantino film I've seen, the first being Pulp Fiction which I didn't like at all. I find Kill Bill to be both fun and stylish. The fights are well thought out and whenever a body part is cut off a fountain of blood just spurts everywhere. It's a little cheesy but that's what makes it fun. Some might find the absurd amount of blood amusing but in some scenes it's just sick. There is also an anime scene in the movie, it gives details on Lucy Liu's character and while it isn't the best looking animation, it does have it's own style. Kill Bill is one of the few movies this year that I highly recommend seeing in theaters and don't let the fact that the movie was split into two films keep you from seeing this movie.
