The movie got huge media backlash before it came out, as it tries to cash in on the American idol craze. I for one never watched American Idol, except the last episode and I skiped the entire second season. So, on with this review The story is quite simple. Kelly is your sweet southren girl and her wild friends drag her to Miami for Spring Break where she meets Justin, a big ole party animal. They fall in love at first sight but crazy and exciting things get in their way. They also sing and dance a lot! Okay, the plot is far from original and the characters are beyond uninteresting. They characters are way too cliched and unbelievable. The nerd has abs for crying out loud! Oh and the songs have nothing to do with what is happening in the movie, most of the time anyway. Kelly Clarkson and Justin with the odd name I won't even try to spell, star in this romantic musical and both deliver lines as well as a cardboard cut out could. Rest of the cast is almost as bad but they have an even worse flaw, their voices sound very much like studio singing voices during the musicals, so I guess they were chosen for looks and not singing talent, what a shame. Kelly has a set of lungs on her but even she sounds like she recorded the songs in a studio, let's just ignore Justin as he has a girly pitch when he sings. The script is laughably bad, it's so bad that I laughed when I shouldn't have. We get wonderful lines like "You're cute, I mean, You're not cute, I mean, You're cute but not in a way that makes me seem easy." If that doesn't make you want to turn the movie off, I don't know what will then. The directing is okay I guess, the musical numbers are done decently but they seem so lame, what with everyone knowing all of the dance steps nd it's a lot of people and just doesn't seem real. Oh and the editing is horrible. During one of the musical numbers, the song actually skipped once or twice, as if it had to be edited for some reason. In the end, From Justin To Kelly is as bad as everyone says. Maybe the super die hard fans of American Idol will love it but this has to be the worst movie I've seen all year and the fact I paid to rent it is mind numbing.
