The Wicoffs of Pendleton Cty, KY

WICOFF, WIKOFF, WICKOFF, WYCOFF, WYKOFF, WECOFF,WICUFF, WICOUGH, WYCHOFF, WIEKOFF

The individuals in this first table are believed to be siblings based on their ages. All are found in Pendleton County, KY records around 1800-1820. We believe these Wicoffs were born in, and came from, Culpeper or Fauquier County in Virginia.

Note that the 1790 Virginia Census (where we believe these Kentucky pioneers came from) is, like the 1800 Pendleton Cty, KY Census, lost. Any listings found for either of these records are reconstructions from tax lists.

Three different William SMITH listings in Pendleton Cty, KY

Daughter Nancy SMITH m. Hannah BRYAN Westrope’s son John WESTROPE 1812 Campbell Cty, KY

This Wm. Smith supposedly buried in Blackburn Cemetery, Pendleton Cty, KY.

Theory: Below is a different John WICOFF, probably older, than the John WICOFF listed above. He is probably a relative, perhaps even the father of the above probable siblings. His marriage to Hannah BRYAN Westrope is recorded in Pendleton Cty, KY. However, there is a lack of evidence that Hannah dies, or that the two divorce, in order for him to be the John WICOFF who marries Peggy CRISLER Griffin in 1816.

What little is known

John WICOFF

m. Hannah BRYAN Westrope 8 Apr 1802 in Pendleton Cty, KY (Wichoff & Westsope in record)

Hannah BRYAN (dau. of Wm BRYAN & Mary BOONE) b. 1765 VA. Married to John WESTROPE in NC on 18 Aug 1784, bondsman Daniel Boone BRYAN. John WESTROPE d. 1787. Online trees suggest possible alliance or marriage by Hannah with John PARSONS after John WESTROPE, and another possible alliance or marriage with James WILSON before John WESTROPE. Her children include three with birthdates to go with John WESTROPE: William, John, and Richard. Also three or four that were probably not fathered by John WESTROPE: Elizabeth, Dulcena (different person than Dulcena dau. of William WESTROPE), and Abner WESTROPE and Hannah PARSONS.

Since one Mary PARSONS ends up bonded to James WICOFF in 1822, that may suggest that this John WICOFF had died by then—if Mary PARSONS is the offspring of Hannah BRYAN Westrope WICOFF.

Online trees disagree about Hannah’s death date. One has death date as early as 1808, most are much later, in Oct 1843 or 1846. One tree suggests that John WICOFF had a daughter, Mary, from a previous marriage. This is a logical connection based on the fact that Mary WICOFF becomes the spouse of Hannah BRYAN’s son William WESTROPE. Note that our table above includes this Mary.

Another of Hannah’s sons marries Nancy SMITH, daughter of Susannah WICOFF and William SMITH (see above). A third son, Richard WESTROPE, marries Marg. Holton Lansdown in 1813 in Vincennes, Knox Cty, IN.

Hannah BRYAN’s brother Samuel is married to Mary HUNT Bryan, who is the Mary Bryan, Pioneer Woman who now has an elementary school and her burying ground in Perry Twp, Marion Cty, IN named after her. Hannah & Samuel are the children of William BRYAN and Mary BOONE, sister of the famous frontiersman Daniel BOONE.

It is highly possible that this John WICOFF dies as early as 1810 and Hannah is absorbed into another household (she does not appear on census records anywhere we can find as a head of household).

v    Mary/Polly WICOFF (record reads WICUFF) m. William WESTROPE, (son of Hannah BRYAN Westrope Wicoff and John WESTROPE) 9 Aug 1804 Pendleton Cty, KY. Bondsman: Henry WICOFF.

v    Grant Cty Historical Society Probate Abstracts, vol. 2, p. 10 says that Harrison Cty, KY Court records of 1800, p. 233, show that William & Richard WESTROPE had been apprenticed to James McMURTRY, tanner & currier, with the consent of their mother, Hannah. The record lists the boys as “infant orphans of John WESTROPE, dec’d.” (William WESTROPE b. 1783 in NC, his brother Richard b. 1786, so they were about 17 & 14 at this time.) James McMURTRY’s wife was NancyAnn BRYAN, daughter of Samuel BRYAN, who was Hannah BRYAN Westrope’s brother. So Hannah’s boys were still under the care of family.

v    William WESTROPE listed as Circuit Court juror in Pendleton Cty, KY at same time as James WICOFF (1810).

v    Federal Census 1810 Pendleton Cty, KY, Roll 8, p. 114, line 20. William WESTROPE household: 2 males under 10, 1 male 26-45; 2 females under 10, 1 26-45.

v    1825-1834 Nehemiah SMITH obtained 7 parcels of land in Franklin Twp, Marion Cty, IN

v    Federal Census 1830 Pendleton Cty, KY, Roll 41, p. 70. Nehemiah SMITH household includes one male age 40-50 and one female age 50-60 (should be Sarah). Son (?) William SMITH one line above with his family.

v    Federal Census 1840 Franklin Twp, Marion Cty, IN Roll 88, p. 284: Nehemiah SMITH household. He is age 50-60 and she is age 60-70. No children are in their household but sons William, Obediah and Nathaniel all have households listed on the same page.

v    Federal Census 1850 Franklin Twp, Marion Cty, IN p. 347: Nehemiah & Sarah Smith. Living with them is Betsey WICOFF McFarland, newly widowed from Thomas McFARLAND; as well as Betsey’s eleven children ages 1-19.

v    Burial records for Piner Cemetery, Franklin Twp, Marion Cty IN indicate Sarah was b. 1773 in Virginia. She d. in 1853 and Nehemiah d. in 1860.

Susannah WICOFF Smith (wife to William)

v    Online trees say b. VA 1762, m. William SMITH 12 Aug 1793 Culpeper Cty, VA, d. Pendleton Cty, KY Mar 1831, bur. Blackburn Cemetery, Pendleton Cty, KY. Same tree says William was born 1750 VA and died 8 Jan 1823 Pendleton Cty, KY. He had married Lucy Wright 8 Aug 1776 in Culpeper Cty, VA. Theory: this is the father of Nehemiah Smith.

Offspring of Henry WICOFF

  1. Elizabeth/Betsey WICOFF McFarland m. Thomas McFARLAND/McFARLING 2 Dec 1830 Marion Cty, IN (Indiana State Library Genealogy Database: Marriages through 1850). Betsey would be Henry’s daughter by his first wife.
    1. Federal Census 1850, Marion Cty, IN. The Mortality Schedule (ID #MRT197_214157) tells us that Thomas McFARLAND, age 46, b. KY has died in February of consumption. He was a shoemaker and cordwainer. He leaves wife Elizabeth/Betsey, age 36, b. KY,  living in the h/h of Sarah (WICOFF) and Nehemiah SMITH in Franklin Twp, Marion Cty, IN. He also leaves eleven children living here: Alexander, Mary Margaret, Samuel, Sarah Isabelle, Elizabeth Jane, Dorcas, Martha, William Thomas, Eliza G., John James and Lucinda. An on-line tree for this family also lists Benjamin Henry as being the next eldest son. This tree says Betsey was b. 14 Nov 1812 KY and d. 15 Dec 1875. No parentage is given.

COFF (age 4, b. IN) [Note that Mariah’s future husband G[B]arret BREWER is listed on the page before her, household #268.
    4. James Henry WICOFF d. 11 Aug 1853 Perry Twp, Marion Cty, IN. Buried in Mary Bryan/old Southport Baptist Church cemetery—stone may be gone but once had James Henry, his infant son James Thomas, and wife & mother Mariah VICKERS Wicoff Brewer on three sides of one stone.
    5. Federal Census 1860 Perry Twp, Marion Cty, IN p. 38: Mariah Brewer (41), Barrett BREWER (52), John S. WICOFF (21), Eli (19), Wm. R (14) and Elizabeth BREWER (9), who would have been born to Barrett BREWER and his first wife just after the previous census.

  1. William C. WICOFF m. Margaret MONROE 26 Dec 1849 Marion Cty, IN (Indiana State Library Genealogy Database: Marriages through 1850). Margaret is believed to be the daughter of William C. MONROE.
    1. Federal Census 1850, Pleasant Twp, Johnson Cty, IN p. 22 (just south of Marion Cty, IN—many links between this area and Southport, Perry Twp, Marion Cty, IN). With wife Margaret (b. KY) and his mother Sarah/Sally WYCOFF (b. VA). William, b. KY, is 24 and a blacksmith.
    2. Federal Census 1860, Perry Twp, Marion Cty, IN, p. 857. With wife Margaret. Household includes mother-in-law Cynthia MONROE and sister-in-law Sarah MONROE.

  1. Ed. LOVETT (not actually Henry’s son, but son of second wife with her first husband)  m. Mary/Polly SMITH, daughter of Sarah WICOFF Smith & Nehemiah SMITH.
    1. Federal Census 1840 Perry Twp, Marion Cty, IN Roll 88, p. 243, line 14: Edward LOVIT: 2 males under 5, 2 males 5-10, 1 male 10-15, 1 male 15-20, 1 male 30-40, 1 female 5-10, 1 female 30-40.
    2. Federal Census 1850 Perry Twp, Marion Cty, IN p. 170b, household #274. Ed. LOVETT (age 46, b. KY), Mary (age 47, b. KY), Neh. (age 22, b. KY), Louisa (21), Elias (17), David (15), Saml (13), John (11) and Joseph (9) all b. IN.
    3. 2007 note: was unable to locate LOVETT in Perry Twp in Ancestry.com’s online 1860 census images.
    4. Researcher & descendant Doug Fox says Edmond Lovett was homesteading with his sons in Stanton Cty, NE by 1870. This census spears to show him living in his own household, with no sign of wife Mary. By 1880, he is back in Clinton Cty, IN, living with another son, Joseph, and family. His marital status at that time is listed as widowed. He died in 1888 in Clinton Cty, IN, and his obituary appeared 21 Jan 1881 on p. 1 of the Frankfort Crescent: “The aged Mr. Edmond Lovett, at the time living with his son south of town, died and was buried on Wednesday at the Bunnel cemetery. Mr. Lovett was one of the oldest men known in this community; he was known for his uprightness and rectitude of character. A good man has gone to his reward.” Doug has been unable to find any mention of Mary/Polly SMITH Lovett after the 1850 census. The firstborn to Edmond & Mary was named Nehemiah Chenoweth LOVETT. And CHENOWETH is among those listed in connection with the settling of Elias LOVETT’s estate in Ross Cty, OH.

Offspring of James (or perhaps of John) WICOFF

  1. Sally B. WICOFF m. Moses B. PORTLOCK 18 Jun 1828 Shelby Cty, IN (Indiana State Library Genealogy Database: Marriages through 1850).  I have attached Sally B. to James because the Moses PORTLOCK family lives close by on the 1830 (Roll 28, p. 375)  Liberty Twp, Shelby Cty, IN censuses. However, on the 1840 Federal Census for Liberty Twp, Shelby Cty, IN, the household of Moses PORTLOCK is on the same page as that of John WYCOFF. On the 1850 Federal Census for District 1, Carroll Cty, KY appears Moses B. PORTLOCK, age 44, with Sarah, age 44. Also Martha, 21; John W., 19; Samuel B., 17; Thomas I., 15; Benjamin F., 13; Sarah E., 11; Peggy, 7; Mary I., 5. NOTE: Based on this census, Sally cannot be offspring from James’ marriage of 1819 or from John’s marriage of 1816. Online trees say she was b. abt. 1807 in VA and d. 1879 in the town of Ohio, Crawford Cty, IN. The same death information is given for her husband Moses PORTLOCK.

Offspring of John WICOFF

1.      James Lewis WYCOFF [possibly born 4 Apr 1822 who appears to have been “of Shelby co., IN,” when he received 80 acres each under Land Patents dated 1 Feb 1850 in Jasper co., IL, Document #17725 17726 and married Juliana DART on 3 May 1845 in Marion co., IN]

2.      (Francesca) Frances A. WYCOFF m. Wm. M. JONES 18 Jul 1839 Shelby Cty, IN (Indiana State Library Genealogy Database: Marriages through 1850).  Three Wm. Jones are on 1840 Shelby Cty, IN. Online trees for this couple exist on Ancestry.com but not RootsWeb.com. No parentage is given for Frances WYCOFF but it says she was born 7 Mar 1817 in KY and died 17 Dec 1886 in Jasper, IL Her middle name is given as Allen. Her husband lived 1816-1906 (middle name Mason).

3.      Elizabeth WYCOFF born ca. 1818 who appears to have died 16 Apr 1853 Shelby Cty, IN, the 1st wife of Greenberry Fields BURGESS born 6 Jul 1819 Scott co., KY, - the latter the son of Edward BURGESS and Sarah (FIELDS).

Offspring of Mary/Polly WICOFF Westrope (wife to William)

Offspring of Sarah WICOFF Smith (wife to Nehemiah)

  1. Mary/Polly SMITH m. Edmund LOVETT 1825 Pendleton Cty, KY; Bondsman: William C. MONROE.
    1. Federal Census 1830 Perry Twp, Marion Cty, IN Roll 28, p. 190, line 24. Edward LAVETT, 1 male under 4, 1 male 20-30, 1 female under 5, 1 female 20-30. This is two pages over from Henry & Sarah/Sally WICOFF.
    2.  Federal Census 1840 between Henry WICOFF h/h and his son James Henry WICOFF’s h/h is the h/h of Edward LOVITT. The
    3. Federal Census 1850 has the LOVEIT h/h as #274, the page before the h/h of Joseph WALLACE and Wm. C. MONROE. Ed. LOVEIT is 46, b. VA; Mary is 47, b. KY; Neh. Is 22, b. KY, Louisa is 21, b. IN; Elias is 17, b. IN, David is 15, b. IN; Sam’l is 13, b. IN; John is 11, b. IN, and Joseph is 9, b. IN
    4. Federal Census 1860, Ed. & Mary/Polly’s son Nehemiah LOVETT, age 32, and his family are in Jackson, Clinton Cty, IN, the next page over from Betsey WICOFF McFarland. They are not blood relatives, but Betsey’s father Henry’s second wife Sarah/Sally is Nehemiah’s paternal grandmother. So they would’ve grown up in Marion Cty, IN in a relationship similar to aunt/nephew or older cousin/younger cousin.

  1. Susannah SMITH m. Abraham HENDRICKS/HENRICKS 24 Apr 1824 Pendleton Cty. KY. Bondsman:      Moved to Marion Cty, IN, Susannah d. 20 Oct 1854. Online tree says she was b. 13 Jul 1806 in Connersville, Fayette, IN. Indiana birthplace seems unlikely as parents are on 1810 Pendleton Cty, KY census. This is the line of both Chris Henricks and Mary Perkinson.

Other Leads Investigated

CRISLER and GRIFFIN/GRIFFING

v    One John WYCOFF m. Margaret CRISLER in 1785 in Culpeper, VA. It seems odd, though not impossible, that a generation later another John WYCOFF would marry another Margaret (Peggy) CRISLER Griffin.

v    John WICOFF and Fountain HUFFMAN of Shelby Co. Indiana, heirs of Leonard CRISLER, deceased of Boone Co. Ky. to Thomas MADDEN. April 11, 1828 G-309 This land is 25 acres. Property of said Leonard CRISLER deceased and willed by him to Elisha CRISLER, one of heirs of said CRISLER, deceased and sold by him to Thomas MADEN of above named state (Ky) for consideration of $6.37 to us in hand paid. Part of land lying in Boone Co. Ky. on headwaters of dry fork of Lexington and Burlington Roads. We, said WECOF and HUFFMAN do sell and convey the above named land. Signed John WICOFF and Fountain HUFFMAN. Witnesses are Jacob CREEK. Willis GRAVES as witness to F. HUFMAN.(The next deed following this is Allen CRISLER.)

v    Notes from Bob:  In the late 1700s, there are GRIFFIN/GRIFFITH surnames in Culpeper and Fauquier counties VA. In Pendleton co., KY, in the Grassy Creek area of the Licking River during this same period are Ebenezer, Jeremiah, Thomas and Robert GRIFFING. In the 1810 Federal census for Campbell co., KY, are GRIFFING listings for Ebenezer, Jeremiah, John, Phebe, Thomas and William.  Jasper Griffing was born 1648 in Wales, England. He died 17 Apr 1718 in Suffolk, New York. He married Hannah. Robert Griffing was born 1685 in New York. He died 28 Mar 1729 in Southold, Suffolk co., New York. He married Lydia Kirland [or Kirtland] in 1708. Lydia Kirland  was born 11 Oct 1685. She died 1742. William GRIFFING SR. was born ca. 1715  in [?]NJ. He died in Pennsylvania. He married Frances Parlia HORTON 2 Apr 1735 in New Jersey. Apparently the progenitors in this area  for GRIFFING are Ebenezer [born 1745 son of William] and Phebe (HALLOCK) GRIFFING who were part of the “New Jersey Settlers” starting first on Long Island and then Suffolk co., NY, [next to the Roxbury area, of Morris co., NJ]  and next down the Ohio River to KY. [Many GRIFFING descendants ended up in Mississippi.] GRIFFING is  also a common surname in Kenton co., KY, which borders Pendleton co., KY, where near Morningview  is a cemetery recording a William GRIFFING who was born 26 May 1781.

v    Thomas Crisler GRIFFING b. 24 Apr 1806 Boone Co., KY; died 15 Feb 1859 in Jasper co., IL; married 19 May 1831 to Sarah MOORE born 1 May 1812 in Franklin County, IN. Wm. GRIFFING married Apr 1804 Pendleton co., KY, Mary STEELE daughter of John STEELE  born VA. The latter couple’s daughter Eleanor GRIFFING born 1809  married 18 Mar 1830 Campbell co., KY, as 1st husband Thomas J. THRASHER and they settled in the Grassy Creek section of Pendleton co., KY. Eleanor GRIFFING married 2nd 19 Nov 1850 Pendleton co., KY, William RACE. What are THRASHER origins?

v    Various Campbell co., KY deeds  show: James WECOFF ( his mark) of Campbell Co. Ky. to Jeremiah GRIFFING Bk. D2 p.236 32 3/4 Acres. Dec. 8, 1828 Witnesses James ANDERSON, Henry WICOFF.

v    John WICOFF from Bartlett GRAVES ‑both of Campbell Co. Ky. Bk. D1 p. 345 74 acres, $1000. Aug. 29, 1815. James WYCOFF to Jeremy GRIFFING ‑both of Campbell Co. Ky. G‑192 March 1827 witnesses Wm. GRIFFING, Asher FOWLER.

Alexander MONROE & other MONROES

v    Alexander MONROE: b. Mar 1756 in Fauquier co., VA. His parents were Alexander MONROE and Margaret LANG. On 1810 Federal Census for Pendleton Cty, KY we have Alexander MONROE, age 45+ p. 111, Wm. MONROE age 26-44, p. 111 and Alexander MONROE, Jr. age 26-44, p. 117.

v    Alexander MONROE  is on 1820 Pendleton Cty, KY census at age 45+ with family.

v    Wm. C. MONROE m. Cynthia WALLACE 27 Jun 1821 in Pendleton Cty, KY. Interestingly, this marriage is  performed by the Rev. Robt. Groves rather than by Wm. C’s father Alexander. Note that this probably indicates that Wm. C. marries into the Wallace family and then his brother-in-law Joseph WALLACE turns around and marries Wm.’s sister Elizabeth MONROE just  a few years later.

v    In 1830, Alexander MONROE  is on his own line of the census with no other family in Pendleton co., KY (p. 67) at age 70-80. Line above is Joseph WALLACE, age 30-40, with family. Joseph (b. 1798 KY) is married to Elizabeth MONROE (b. 1803 KY, no other info), according to RootsWeb tree (John Hendricks jwh21@comcast.net); they married in Pendleton co., KY 13 Aug 1825. First WALLACE offspring b. in IN were b. in 1833, so can presume moved from Pendleton soon after 1830 census. No RootsWeb trees show Elizabeth MONROE as an offspring for Alexander MONROE. However, “History of Indianapolis and Marion County, Chapt. XXIV, Perry Township,” by Dr. Wm. H. Wishard says that Rev. MONROE came from KY in 1830 w/ his son William, but lived part of the time with his son-in-law Joseph WALLACE. Says the reverend was 87 at his death & had been a minister over 50 years.

v    Notes from Wendy: William, son of Alexander, is who Wendy believes to be William C. MONROE who stood bond for a marriage of Henry WICOFF and for his stepson Ed. LOVETT. William MONROE is on the 1820 and 1830 Pendleton Cty, KY censuses.  There appears to be two Wm. MONROE’s in Pendleton, so the one was usually shown as Wm. C.

v    On the same page as the WICOFFS on the 1840 Marion Cty, IN census, but living with Joseph WALLACE, is Revolutionary War pensioner Alexander MONROE (there's a column on the 1840 census for that). This is the Alexander MONROE who was born ca. 1758 in Fauquier co., VA, m. Elizabeth/Betsey CHENOWETH (1764-1829) 18 Mar 1782, served as a Baptist minister in Pendleton Cty, KY, and then moved up (must have been right after the 1830 census in Pendleton) to Marion Cty., IN with his other Baptist fellows. The Wicoffs, Lovitts and others show up on rosters for several young Baptist churches in this area, and Alexander MONROE is buried in the Mary Bryan cemetery that is the old Southport Baptist Church cemetery.

v    Census records from Perry Twp, Marion Cty, IN,  suggest that William is the father-in-law to Wm. C. WICOFF, Henry WICOFF’s son. We can deduce this because William MONROE is shown in on the Federal Census 1850 at age 60 with wife Synthia (age 53) and a daughter Sarah (age 18). In 1860, Cynthia (age 63) and Sarah (age 27) are in the household of Wm. C. WICOFF.

v     From Pendleton County Order Book G - 15 June 1829
ALEXANDER MONROE Declaration:  Alexander Monroe of Pendleton County, aged 73 years, a soldier of the Revolution, produced his written declaration and schedule of his property.  He states that he enlisted for 3 years in 1777 in the state of Virginia, in the Company commanded by Captain Smallwood, in the regiment of Colonel William Grayson and that he continued in that service for 3 years and was discharged at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1780.

My family now consists of my wife, aged 65 years, and myself.

Schedule of Property: I sold to Peter Livingood 791/2 acres  for $600.00, on 2 October 1824,  which has been expended in the support of his family and in the purchase of a small tract of 50 acres.

I sold to Peter Livingood 19 acres for $130.00, on 18 August 1825.

I sold to George T. Monroe, son of the said Alexander, 50 acres for $1.00, on 31 October 1821 and he was given this land in return for his support of his aged Mother and himself, said Alexander, for years prior to this deed of gift.

I now own 50 acres of land, 1 horse, 2 cows, 2 yearlings, 7 head of sheep, 7 hogs plus household furniture and 9 geese.  The total value of my said property is $258.00.

Henry WICOFF (false trails?)

v     An early CHENOWETH researcher lists Sarah/Sally as a CHENOWETH at her first marriage to Elias LOVETT. The current CHENOWETH guru feels this marriage, which appeared at the back of an early book as an unattached marriage (orphan branch), is in fact not a valid record. Wendy feels that Sarah/Sally could also have been a MONROE by birth, as evidenced by the family’s continued closeness to the Monroes. This includes ties between Sarah/Sally’s son Ed. Lovett and the Monroes. See, however, notes about Elias’ son Edmond for additional CHENOWETH connections.

James WICOFF (false trails)

John WICOFF (false trails)

v     John WYCOFF, 1810 Census Bourbon Cty, KY. This John leaves a will in Apr 1818 mentioning his wife “Ursula.” Our John is married to Hannah and is alive in Shelby Cty, IN after this date. John of Bourbon Cty leaves offspring Samuel, Garrett, Jacob, John (wife Polly).  They are on the 1820 census for Bourbon Cty, KY. These become the Wycoffs of Sangamon Cty, IL. Other court references include Ursula’s will and a land sale by Garrett WICKLIFF.

v     Federal Census 1840 Perry Twp, Marion Cty, IN: The John H. on p. 243 is actually James Henry WICOFF, son of Henry WICOFF.

Mary/Polly WICOFF Westrope (wife to William) (false trails)

Sarah WICOFF Smith (wife to Nehemiah) (false trails)

Nicholas WYCOFF of Mercer Cty, KY as early as 1807

One Nicholas Wicoff received land from John & Eleanor MONROE in 1778 & 1779 in Fauquier co., VA. After Nicholas died, one Elizabeth WYKOFF sued the estate in 1797--this would suggest that Nicholas WICOFF of Mercer co., KY is either a son or completely unrelated, but not the same person. The abstract in VA County Records, Vol. VI, Fauquier County Book 10, p. 598-599 lists children and heirs but I am unclear as to whether there is a son Nicholas as well as the deceased Nicholas. WYCOFF names listed: Nicholas, Hannah Margaret, Isaac, Mary, Abraham, William, Elizabeth, and Sarah

WYCOFF NY, NJ, MD, Brooke Cty, WV, Philadelphia, PA

There are many similar names between these families and ours, but also many records which place our people in the northern Kentucky area at the same time these families are leaving records in their respective communities.

Spelling: While researchers may need to check various spellings to find information, there is usually some pattern to how a particular family appears in the records of any area. Variant pattern clusters from place to place may help to indicate distinct individuals and families.
