Photo to the left represents a German reconnaissance feldwebel in Italy somewhere.  He wears the M43 tropical tunic, Italian shorts, tropical belt, M40 helmet with non-tropical paint, stick grenade and mapcase.  It was common for Germans to wear tropical gear mixed with continental uniform items and Italian items in the Mediterranean areas.  To the right is a vintage photo postcard of a German Grenadier.

To the left is a representation of an Italian San Marcos Marine.  Italian tropical marine blouse is worn with Italian infantry items. Model 91/07 leather belt and cartridge pouches are worn with a canvas rucksack for grenades and additionally needed items. Non-tropical camo paint job on the M33 Italian helmet. What little photo evidence I have seen of the San Marcos Marines in Africa show the grey-green paint on the helmet being used. Model 91/38 6.5 Carcano carbine with folding bayonet is utilized. Smaller capacity water bottle is shown here. The larger liter bottle was more common in the North African theater. To the right is a period "death notice" for a MVSN(blackshirt) that died, in 1936, during the Ethiopian conflict.

To the left is a Russian scout officer wearing the camouflage smock pullover over his M43 "gymnastiorka". Russian camouflage items were for specialized troops and were not issued freely to frontline troops. An officer quality "pilotka"(sidecap) is being worn. Notice the differing shades of khaki drab on this models uniform. This was commonly seen and was called "zashchitniy tsvet" in Russian. This scout is issued the PPsh41 submachinegun. He also has the model 1936 binoculars and a leather mapcase slung over his shoulder. To the right is a wartime photo of an officer wearing the M43 gymnastiorka with medals and badges. It was common for the Russian soldier to wear his orders on his combat tunic in action.
