The Wangaratta Fly Fishing Club Inc. is based in the rural city of Wangaratta (population 17,000) situated at the junction of the Ovens and King Rivers in the North East region of the State of Victoria. North East Victoria has a mixture of topographies ranging from gently undulating farming land to the mountainous terrain of the Victorian Alps. The main industries in the area are farming and forestry based, with tourism becoming increasingly important. The Region is also famous for its wineries (Brown Brothers, Morris', Baileys and a host of others). In winter an influx of snow enthusiast's swell the local populations of the towns at the foothills of the ski resorts of Falls Creek, Mt Hotham and Mt Buller. It is in the snow capped Victorian Alps that the streams of the North East start their journey towards the mighty Murray River.
