the official website of the Wanganui Chess Club, WANGANUI, NEW ZEALAND.
Hi there fellow Chess Players
The Wanganui Chess Club meets every Monday evening and we start at 7:15 p.m. at 102 Peat Street, where all new and prospective members are always welcome.
(102 Peat Street - Royal NZ Foundation of the Blind - opposite recycling centre)
The first night of 2008, was Monday 28th January 2008 - and the new Chess Year was ushered in with a "Simultaneous Exhibition" when John McDonald, one of the senior players at our club, accepted challenges from all comers.
We are currently running a Summer Handicap Tournament every Monday Evening (start 7:15 pm) and you are welcome to come along and watch,
or play a friendly game if you wish to. We would like to invite visitors to try-out our club for 2-3 weeks for free, and then decide if you would like
to join. Feel free to come along and ask our President or one of our committee members for more details.
MISSION STATEMENT:
To welcome players of any age our club; to encourage beginners and young players to participate in the game; and to hold games, club tournaments and inter-club matches, so that all players may have an opportunity to improve their game and meet new friends.
IN MEMORY:
We would like to remember our past President Gordon Hoskyn who passed away recently, and we would like to thank him for his contribution to Chess in Wanganui as a player, event organiser and friend - who will be dearly missed.
