Breeders Referral CHECK HERE FOR NAMES OF BREEDERS
The Wampanoag Kennel Club has been in existence as a dog club since 1955. The main goal of the Club is to promote knowledge of and service to dogs. The Club conducts obedience and conformation classes, in addition to performing public service. The classes are designed to assist in the training of all dogs, including the family pets.  Our goal is to make your dog a better companion for your family.

PUBLIC SERVICE

To promote a better understanding of dogs, throughout the year the Wampanoag Kennel Club conducts meetings and seminars, which are open to the public, where you can obtain information on your specific breed.  The general meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month on
Jenkins Street in New Bedford at the training hall.  The club does not meet in January, July and August.

The Club holds an annual AKC show and trial where dogs of all breeds, shapes and sizes are exhibited. Any dog you might be interested in will be there for you to see. And, you can  talk to breeders, so that you can learn more about the breeds.  Sanctioned matches are also held at various times of the year.  Matches are informal, and it is a great opportunity to talk to dog owners about the various types of breeds and find out what breed would match your lifestyle.

The Club participates in a Breeders' Referral Service which is comprised of the better-known kennel clubs throughout the New England states. The service will place interested buyers in contact with reputable breeders where you may purchase a quality puppy.  Puppies purchased through reputable breeders come with the knowledge that the breeder will be a resource to you as the puppies grows.  These breeders are committed to the puppies that they produce and are a valuable resource to new puppy owners.

Take advantage of our many years of experience - we can help you and your dog become companions

OBEDIENCE CLASSES
The Club offers a basic eight-week obedience course where you teach your dog to come, heel, sit and stay, etc. Any dog owner knows the importance of having his dog return or sit when he commands. For those interested, the Club offers advanced training for the descriminate dog owner which may lead to a CD (Companion Dog), CDX (Companion Dog Excellent) or UD (Utility Dog) Degree, which is awarded by the American Kennel Club.

Training classes also prepare dogs and handlers for paticipation in Rally and Canine Good Citizen.

BREED CLASSES

Breed (conformation) classes are available for the purbred dog owner who is interested in learning the proper techniques of competing.  It's a good place to start a puppy on the road to competition.
