WALWORTH COUNTY EMS ASSOCIATION MINUTES
March 25th, 2003

The meeting was called to order at 7:05 P.M. by Chairman John Kramer. Present were: Vice Chairman Chuck Taylor, Secretary/Treasurer, Sandy Javorek, along with 10 members.

The minutes of the January 28th, 2003 meeting were presented. Kevin Kennedy moved to accept the minutes as presented. Terry Jones seconded the motion. The motion carried by unanimous vote.

CHAIRMAN KRAMER'S report: Chairman Kramer advised that there was no meeting in February.

VICE CHAIRMAN TAYLOR'S Report: Discussed using Ambu Collars or another type of C-collar.

FINANCIAL Report: None.

MERCY WALWORTH Medical Center Report: Dr. Kellum was excused due to his wife having surgery.

EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT: None.

LAKELAND Medical Center Report: Mark Messina reported that the next EMS dinner will be Tuesday, April 8th, 2003 at 6:00P.M. at Sperino's in Elkhorn. The speaker will be Dr. Bellino on Pediatrics.

Dr. Bellino advised that he has had several inquiries about the Counsel of Chiefs that was going to be organized. They have not gone ahead with organizing a Counsel of Chiefs, as that would be a duplication of the EMS Association. Dr. Bellino stated that he believes that the Walworth County EMS Association needs to continue in order to get information out to all squads in Walworth County. Dr. Bellino wants to remain a supportive member of the organization. The quality assurance has been completed for the month of February and will be mailed out to the departments.

GATEWAY TECHNICAL COLLEGE report: Gary Leyer advised that there is an I.V. Tech class at Bloomfield starting next week. Gateway will be offering a class starting in June called "Live from the Heart", which will be open heart surgery over a viewing station. Gateway mailed out survey's for all departments to returned to Gateway as soon as possible. Vice Chairman Taylor questioned what Gateway required to be an instructor. That information will be mailed to the Association. The class on Weapons of Mass Destruction will be offered as needed. Discussion on the Paramedic Critical Care class was discussed and it is not be used by municipalities at this time, however the private ambulance services do offer this service. Discussion on transmitting12 lead monitor information to the hospital.

NEW BUSINESS: Chairman Kramer asked the members in attendance just what they wanted to do with the E.M.S. Association. We have an average of eight squads represented at each meeting and it does not seem like we are able to get the remaining squads in Walworth County to attend the meetings. The members believe that the Association needs to keep going, so when there is a situation that merits attention there is an avenue for notification to all squads. Gateway is always represented, as well as the Emergency Government representative, so that all available information is passed onto all Departments in Walworth County. Discussion on having the meetings every other month unless there is a need for monthly meetings. All the Counties in this area do have EMS Associations. It was a unanimous decision to keep the Association going and to try and get all Departments involved in the Association.

OLD BUSINESS: Chairman Kramer advised that tonight will be election of the Vice Chairman. Vice Chairman Taylor nominated Kevin Kennedy for the position of Vice Chairman. Terry Jones seconded the nomination. A unanimous vote was cast for Kevin Kennedy.

Dr. Bellino discussed the new facility that aurora is proposing (to create a new facility/combining Lakeland & Burlington Hospital). The membership believed that the communities would be better served if Lakeland Hospital & Burlington Hospital remained where they are right now.

There will be a C.P.R. Instructor refresher at Delavan Rescue on April 26th, from 10AM to 12 noon. C.P.R. instructors will be needed for a class on May 4, 2003 at Lake Geneva YMCA for Special Olympics (this class will have 50 to 100 students).

Mark Messina discussed the Alpine Valley Concerts for the up coming season and all the 100th anniversary of Harley Davidson.

The next meeting will be 4-16-03.

The meeting was adjourned the meeting at 8:35P.M.

Sandy Javorek, Secretary
