One of our longest serving SPCA members Virginia van Dooren was honoured by the
Wainuiomata Community on Friday 27th July, when she received a Wainuiomata Civic Award.
Virgina has been a member of the Wainuiomata SPCA for 12 years, she has been President for
several of those years and is currently a committe member.
Her work with the SPCA has involved many aspects and when the Wainuiomata SPCA committee
collapsed a couple of years ago Virginia helped to keep things going.
Virginia is not only well known for her animal skills, she is a wonderful fundraiser and
an expert lamington maker and organiser!
Well Done Virginia!! The Wainuiomata SPCA are proud of you!! |

Remember LeeLee?
Leelee was picked up in September 2000 by WOA SPCA Staff after she was found wandering the
streets by locals.
She was suffering from the worst case of mange that our Inspector had seen, a terrible
skin infection and numerous other physical and behavioral problems. Her owner was
subsequently prosecuted and LeeLee signed over to us. Her problems were so bad that we
were unsure for quite a while if she would survive. Thanks to the care she received and
the one on one training and nursing LeeLee is well on the way to making a full recovery.
The costs of her treatments were very high, and, as we are only a small branch of
volunteers, we found it hard to justify the spending that would be needed on medical
treatment and special food needs on one dog, when there are so many others that are in
such desperate need of our services. We asked the public to help us and the response was
wonderful. We now have a fund specifically designated for LeeLee and her ongoing care. We
will keep you up to date with her progress and photos.
You will be pleased to know that Lee Lee has found a new home and is being well taken care
of. |
