Geline
This one goes out to Geline, who was there.

I hung your picture on the wall, and that's all it is
I put my fingers to make a call, and that's all it is
I know you're living way out south
and I don't think that I confessed
Everything I feel

You say you got no faith in things that you can't see
Well I'm sorry I ain't there with you, but you ain't here with me
And I'm down in all my fears
But I ain't cryin' no tears

Cause everything's wrong
Well it's all right
Everything's wrong
Well it's all right

You said that this is crazy, you're half an ocean away
Well I'm sitting and I'm thinking but I didn't know what to say
So I said something I can't touch, I always want way too much
Anyway

Cause everything's wrong
Well it's all right
Everything's wrong
Well it's all right

I hung your picture on the wall, but that's all it is
I put my fingers to make a call and that's all it is
I know you're living way out south
Don't get me wrong, I'm still impressed
With you

Thank you, Goo Goo Dolls.

Waiting to Exhale
Ya know.... some days my life is just cool. Not everyday, but some days it just all works. I’m in front of the comp now, fingers itching to type and type. It’s been a while, you see. So here I go, sit back relax and use the scroll key, cause this was a 24 hour blast.

It started off Monday morning at about 0800 hours, the phone rang twice, both were wrong numbers. Hai yoh. One of the two people was a cute girl voice, which is always nice in your ear in the morning... Too bad the one with the dude kept talking, it really messed with me fantasy.

So I rolled over and went back to sleep. Ahhhhh, me life! The hours rolled by as often as I did in my bed. I was in the throngs of a dim sum dream (really really) inspired by the previous day’s breakfast chomping with Mama and Papa. Maaaaaan, seeing those fluffy, hot char siew paos can only be expressed with a pool of drool. Wow... Gargle gargle. The dream was going well, I was working my way through some lou mai kais, and egg tarts and siu mais. When a strange ringing in my ears began.

Ask not for whom the phone rings, it rings for me. It was Qi Long. He was awake and we’ve made plans to go to Pyramid. So he said he was leaving his base and was en route to get me. I finally peeled my eyes open for the first time all morning and instinctively looked at the clock on the wall which read 9.43.

I took a nice shower. Then, I began looking around for clothes, ya see me cousin and his Singaporean gf had been over the day before to borrow CDs, and I had to hide my clothes which sometimes hang off of everything in my room. But that just isn't the slobby image I want to project to the land of Phua Chu Kang and Mee Porks.

By the time my mind was functioning on all two cylinders and I was able to stand wobbling only a little, I began gathering up my coolness, but I discovered that Mama had already done that. Books, CDs, mags. They’s all nice and tidy. My work was done, so feeling like I had nothing to do, I stumbled out of my cave and turned on the TV to stare at the crocodiles on Animal Planet. I like this channel ... animals. Hey, it's cool. I munch on a Kiwi apple. Yep, das today’s breakfast, I guess.

Qi Long arrives, I hear him enter the house, you can tell it's him by the, "wasssupppp" He comes in and WOO HOoo!!!!! He has the Princess Mononoke dvd. The floor seems to wet as drool escapes me mouth. This is soooooooooooooo cool. Lovely cover, and the detail is perfect. Already I could see myself watching it. Qi Long says, "Yeah, bought it from Speedy. Not yet finished ar." Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. Whack him whack him, I think, He's in my house, I could say it was an intruder, yeaaaaaaah. It'll be an accident. My Yoda 6 inch doll action figure will magically pierce his chest and I'll have my precious.... come to me my precious.....

He hands it to me. Oh, the torture. The agony, the angst. This is the sweetest casing ever created, it belongs in a museum. Have I ever told yall that some people think my house should be a museum, it should be. And , and ... pathetic ain't I? Heh heh hehh. We browsed through a few scenes. They’re beautiful, classic Miyazaki. Qi Long agrees to lend it to me tomorrow. Yippie Ki Yay.

Then it was time to go. So we enter the Chariot del Qi Long. As we hop in the car, the instant heat waves begin pouring off my cheeks.... I can’t wait to get into Pyramid... an oasis of cool chilled air, a good icy drink.... and hopefully a decent time.

We reached Pyramid. From the basement, we left for a beacon to cool people.... Comics Corner!!!! Now there are few places on earth that are as cool as this place. They sell comics, Dungeons and Dragons stuff, hard-to-find action figures, Japanese Anime stuff and .... graphic novels. I checked ‘em out. They’ve got Batman, the Sandman series…X-Men, etc…and ahaa, Alan Moore’s The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Been looking for that one. The movie version was so-so, but Amazon.com said the book version rocks. So, I paid for it.

Qi Long and I began hearing rumblings from beneath our collective chins. We knew how to take care of this problem. So we walked to the nearest "stuff our face place". "Mc Donald’s" was the name of the food stuffing locale. We hit the counters, and I looked at the menu. So many options. Yummmmm. We ate and my belly was stuffed.

After the meal, we went over to Shiok Collection. What a great store. They even have boxers with funny messages on em. Qi Long finds a couple of items here, and then it’s time to go.

We meet up with Boogaman and L at TGV. Das right, we’re watching Return of the King today. My heart pitter-patters in anticipation of the effects extravaganza coming up ahead. I’ve never met L before, so introductions are made and I say me hellos. Boogaman’s got the tickets, and off we go.

Never in my whole life have I loved TGV more. We march to our seats, About ten minutes before the showing, the video projector starts up and there were the beer commercials. I smiled. They looked tasty. Seeing icy cold pee-coloured beer flowing here and there is… just one of the great relaxing things in life. Like crystal-clear water in lakes and clouds crossing the sky… icy beer commercials make everything cool.

Next, I saw the trailer for Silverhawk. It looked good. Looks like a Chinese Charlie Angels/ Matrix. Michelle Yeoh kicks major arsee. Can’t wait to see it during Chinese New Year. Then, there was that creepy western movie, The Missing. Scary, not my kind of thing. I like me westerns funny (Shanghai Noon) or epic (Dances with Wolves).

I was suddenly giddy. I was at my happy place. I’ve been waiting for an epic sword film to kick me in the arse since Braveheart. I want to feel that raw intensity and emotion again. The sense of power and motion. So this is a big moment for me.

I mean, Fellowship was awesome, and Two Towers was not bad. But this one’s supposed to be the most badass of em all, the best of the best, blah blah blah. I don’t care if they’ve strayed from Tolkien’s books since the beautiful Fellowship. I just want effects, awesome spectacles on the screen. Armies clashing, with big Oliphaunts stomping on thousands of warriors and black Orcish blood spewing everywhere. Yeahhhhh, the trailer was awesomeee. Ya know, some movies are just 3 hours and some movies are a lifetime. This one’s forever and a day.

Spoilers
Viggo Mortensen is now very much in the position to takeover the badass cinema ‘tailou’ award from Russel Crowe, Chow Yun Fatt, and Mel Gibson. When his Aragorn has a sword in his hand or a shield or whatever it may be... When he walks out to the middle of the battlefield there is this feeling as if you could line up ten thousand men between him and his goal and he would slice through them as though they were cheesecakes.

When Aragorn says, "For Frodo" before running towards the badass evil army. The utter shiver of coolness that goes through you is... electric.

Then there is the brief line of conviction that he utters after drawing his long, long sword against the Dead... delivered so well... so bad ass.... so cool that everybody had that rupture of "Wah liao ehh!", "Yeah baybehhhhh" and so on.

Miranda Otto... hubba hubba.. She is the greatest cinema heroine of all time, they’ve given us a babe with balls. She has a small role here, but mesa went ga ga. In the book, she’s the babe Faramir’s in love with, and the same goes for everyone that sees the movie. The first time Aragorn lays eyes on her in The Two Towers... wow, she’s so radiant. Spellbinding.

Right from the start, this is just the book come to life. Yeah, we didn’t get Tom ‘Da Man’ Bombadil and Old Man Willow, no Saruman getting his arse kicked in the Shire, less songs, poetry etc. Some of the details were obscured, some of the characters and situations might have wound up different from where they started in the novel, but this ain’t a novel, this is a new medium, and it works for me.

There are scenes where, as cornball as it may sound, I shed tears of pride. The Pippin-Gandalf afterlife conversation moment..... I can imagine watching this movie to the point of memorization.
End of Spoilers

This is gonna be one of those movies that I take with me and love all the days I walk and breathe. Peter Jackson! Bless you, bless you! Viggo Mortensen… Long Life, take care of yourself. Ian McKellen… You sir Win! Miranda Otto… Um, 012-3665880, heh heh heh. Andy Serkis, good work my man. Good work.

To Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, George Lucas, Robert Jordan and all the others that have done so much for fantasy over so many years. Thank you. Thank you from a beating heart of a fan that loves fantasy like no other.

What happened after that… Yeah, I had a yummy bowl of keuy teow tng. Then, there was a chor tai ti session. So, here I am.... The clockies in me room say it’s 11.35 p.m. My eyes are getting heavier and I’m feeling great, just great. I’m gonna go to bed.
