A Brief History of C++
- The
first C compiler was written for a UNIX environment (and was probably
hosted on a PDP-1)
- 1983 –
ANSI formed a committee to define a standard definition of the C language,
and they published a standard document in 1990
- Dr.
Bjarne Stroustrup developed C++, which he originally called “C with
Classes”
- 1989 –
ANSI formed a committee to define the existing C++ language and to also
define new language and library features
- 1998 –
The ANSI committee, joined by the ISO, published the document that fully
defines the C++ language and libraries. The current version of that
standard is available at http://webstore.ansi.org/ansidcocstore/default.asp
