  • A. GENERAL SOURCES -NATIONAL
    1. Check your insurance policy
    - wheelchairs, scooters, etc. Note: Batteries for your wheelchair or scooter are considered a repair (or emergency repair) not durable medical equipment. They should be covered by your insurance as such.
    2. Check with your Vocational Rehabilitation State Agency
    - Items required so disabled can work eg: scooters, van alterations, lifts, etc.
    3. Check with your Neighborhood Redevelopment Div., Community Service Dept.and Independent Living Programs
    - House alterations for disabled so you can stay in your home. Includes inside and outside of house alterations & equipment eg: stairglides, bathroom modifications, ramps,etc.

    4. Check out Easter Seal Society
    5. Check with your local Rotary Club and Lions Club. They have volunteers in some areas who will install up ramps and may even supply equipment.
    6. Check out the Abledata website for Assistive Technology equipment and related information
    7. Seniors Wheelchair program makes electric wheelchairs available for home use for those using manual wheelchairs
    8. Check Equipment Dealers. They may even know how you can get it at a reduced or free rate.
