Love the bug...talked my sister and niece into beetles also...we have a yellow, green and white ones in the family now ... all with the TDI engine...54 mpg on a trip to California with lots of power....I average right at 50 mpg and live in the mountians.

The new beetle is the coolest production car ever! It's a show car you can own and drive in the real world! To those purists who think it should be air cooled and primitive like the first one -get withnever turn a profit on such a car in this day and age.
You must allow for current tecnology to enter. Even Ferrari who fought such features as anti-lock brakes had to move with the times or be left behind. While I've always had a soft spot for the old bee

My red 5-speed was the first new beetle sold in Augusta, GA - took delivery on 3/31/98. Wife loves it and loves to drive it!! It's sometimes difficult to get out of a parking lot due to curious admirers whose favorite saying is, "It's sooooooo cute!!!"
Only two problems - front end tended to drift left. Dealer fixed once he got alignment specs from factory!!! Also, WATCH OUT for not-sufficiently-tight clamps on the coolant spring clamps with the old screw-type. They're the only problems encountered.
Dealer attention and service (Gerald Jones VW, Augusta, GA) has been EXCELLENT. Since his first delivery of two red NBs some 6 weeks ago, he's only been able to get two more
Delivery is not up to what was first thought. Dealer also got some factory memo saying there was some problem with the metallic lime green paint, so that color NB may be delayed. By the way, I paid factory sticker price with NO dealer packs, add-ons,
tc. And I'm 63 years young, especially when driving my new beetle!!!

I picked my beetle on 3/31/98 it is black with black "primus" cloth upholstry. It has the sports package, convenience package, New york/Connecticut emission requirements and the 4-speed automatic transmission. It is #4855 I LOVE IT!!
My jetta as 150,000 miles on it and still as no rust. Its a graet car but it does not compare to my beetle.

Saw a silver NB on top of a delivery truck passing by on alternate lane of interstate in PA yesterday. Checking out websites, might buy one or two.
Had a 1950 beetle conv. when it was almost new, and was going to be mine when my sister went to college, well, she demolished it so never got to drive it. Had a 76 beetle briefly.
The new one is so un-boring looking, compared to most cars on the road these days, especially those 4x4 gas guzzlers.

Hi Greg - I loved your website . . . can see how much passion and fun you had putting it together. I put it into my "favorite places" spot and plan to visit it often. My first beetle was a brand new 1970. My father had gifted me with it upon graduation
from undergraduate school. Drove out to Los Angeles in it from NJ to attend graduate school at USC. The car served me well. Now, 27 yrs. later I'm awaiting delivery of the New Beetle, silver, gray cloth, automatic. Arriving in two days, I'm told. My
ther cars are (1) '98 SLK230 (silver) and (2) a '98 ML320 (black). The New Beetle is the first car I will take delivery of prior to having driven it. Saw it at the LA autoshow in early Jan . . and absolutely fell in love with it. Pure nostalgia for me
