This is the form of astrology that is most like what people think of when they think of astrology. Progressed astrology is the science of taking the factors which affected you when you were born, and then allowing them to flow forward through time through the effects which were around you. This allows you to see your natural trends and growth in relation to the forces which surround your life. You can see the potential trends before you, what influences you are dealing with and how long they will likely be affecting you, and much more.
There is one thing. While newspapers often show you a small paragraph for your "sun sign", This is not the type of work you will run into. A newspaper usually chooses one date out of the entire month which comprises that sign, and then proceeds to do a chart for it with no birth time or place. This is called a Solar chart, because it is based purely off of the sun and not the individual being charted. When you experience professional progressions, you will recieve the influences covering you during anything between a month and a year. Usually, influences which affect us are apparent for much more than a day (except for some emotional ones) and do not pass so quickly.
A progressed chart will be able to tell you what is happening, accurate to within 1-3 day, and how long this will affect you. This information has been very useful to me, personally. I am in the army and deploy on a regular basis. The army is fairly bad about notifying families when they are going to deploy, other than sometime within 40 days. With astrology, I was able to determine my deployments's dates by its' affect on my wifes and my emotional status to the day. This allowed us tp prepare much more efficiently, and has proven to be a lifesaver.
Each moment in place/time has many variables, forces and patterns at work. As stated above and throughout this site, astrology is the science which is devoted to mapping these patterns and their effect on you as an individual.
With Horary astrology, you can determing the outcome of a decision based on the location and effects as per your interaction with that moment and place. What is going on in your life? What is going on in that location? when these patterns combine, you can tell the probable outcome and possibilities inherent in a decision, choice or location. This can be used to plan a wedding, a move, a job opportunity, and many other key dates and times for the optimal effect you desire. This information is not fortune telling. It is simply an analysis of the forces at work in your life, and the forces at work in your chosen location.
An example would be if you wanted a raise. Your life is limited by financial difficulty, hard work, and desire for change. You (a metaphorical example) stand outside of your bosses' door. He is inside, having a conference on who to lay off. Do you have this information? no. However, it is something that was brought about by influences throughout the company through time. If you had the infomration, you would know when a good time was and wasn't, so that you could increase your chance of success.
