I had a muffler clamp bolt break when I tried to loosen it. It looked like it may have been cross threaded at the factory but could have just seized.
I called the local Honda shop and the guy said "they would have to order it". That was completely unacceptable. I could not let my bike sit because of a muffler clamp.
The bolt goes thru the clamp and screws into a nut that is welded to the clamp. So I just got out the side grinder and ground the nut off the clamp and used a new nut and bolt when I reinstalled the muffler.
Now I know to some of you this may seem like the obvious thing to have done, but I thought I would mention it just in case I was able to help one person.
Just one thing still bothers me. I didn't have any metric nuts and bolts laying around to use with the now modified muffler clamp so I had to use an SAE nut and bolt. Has my bike therefore been tainted?
