YOCKEY / JACKY GENEALOGY Updated 5~06 * The following that I have in quotation marks is what I found about the Yockey surname, the information is from the Brown County, Ohio Genealogical Society. 'The Yockey family can be traced back to Switzerland through the Mormon Genealogical Archives in Salt Lake City, UT. The Swiss spelling was Jaggi, and in the mid 1500s they were located in or near the villages of Gsteig and Teutersoey in western Switzerland on what is now secondary high way 142. By the late 1600s they were found in France, at the present French-German border' After they were in the Germany area the spelling was changed to Jacky, Jaky, when they came to America it was changed to Yockey. In the Swiss German language the pronunciation of Jaggi is Yockey; In the German language the pronunciation of Jacky/ Jaky is Yockey. When they came to America the Americanization of the name became "Yockey". MY FAMILY LINE I have been on a search for the ancestery of Jacob Yockey, my great grandfather. He was born in 1837 and came to America from Hirschthal, Pfalz, Germany, went to Ripley, Ohio, Brown County. There he married Elizabeth Reichmann in 1859, and they had 8 children. Catharine 'Kate', Louisa 'Lucy', Frederick 'Fritz', William 'Will', Emma (my grandmother), Charles, George & Eddie. They moved from Ripley to Cincinnati by 1880. Elizabeth's parents were Fredrick Reichmann & Maria Magdelena Koob from Ungstein, Pfalz, Germany. They settled in Ripley, Brown County, Ohio.
